Rumor: Fleck to be considered for UCLA job.

Be a multimillionaire in Minnesota or Southern California hmm talk about a Sophie’s choice.

On paper, you'd think anyone would take the UCLA job over Minnesota. Weather alone would be a factor for me. Of course there were idiots around here who thought NDSU's coach was a fool to go work for USC because Fargo is such a more desirable place to live.

But something HAS to be up with the UCLA job. Why would someone leave a B1G HC job to take a coordinator position, albeit at a much bigger name program? There has to be something else going on there to make someone want to up and leave like that.
UCLA has no NIL money. Very tough to recruit...Chip Kelly had 10 guys in the December signing period.
The athletic department is over $100 million in debt.

The problem with PJ is that he hasn't been able to be better than Iowa or Wisconsin in the Big Ten west. Divisions are going away, but he was hired to beat Iowa and Wisconsin and he hasn't done that. The issue is not PJ leaving, the issue is timing. If PJ left in December then things would be different.

That was the 4% number...
True, but the bigger issue is he'd have to pay 3 times the price for a comparable home plus property taxes. Maybe UCLA subsidizes that, I don't know.

If you investigate at all, you would be able to see that PJ wouldn’t take the UCLA job even if they gave him a part of California that isn’t screwed up, which isn’t much. They are in debt, had the worst recruiting class in the Big Ten (18), and are viewed as second class citizens in La La Land.

They had consistent top 15-20 classes prior to Kelly going there and got progressively worse the longer he was there. Maybe he just doesn’t like to recruit, wanted to be back in NFL, or lost his fire. It sounds like he has been looking for an exit strategy for a while so not surprising if his heart wasn’t in for the grind of recruiting. They don’t have NIL but neither does Minnesota. Their finances should also improve with big ten TV contract versus disastrous PAC-12 contract. Below you can see their recruiting class rankings for the last 22 years. PJ could look at that and say they’ve recruited well in the past, I can do it again there.

If that’s what he valued most, maybe. There’s a little more to it than that.

So if you were Fleck’s agent, you’d advise him to leave MN & campaign for the Fresno State job if it was available?

Come on now. Fresno is not the same thing as UCLA.

PJ Fleck once said he would be interested in the USC job. UCLA, not so much IMHO.

PJ has arguably reached his peak performance at Minnesota. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he took the UCLA job just for a change of scenery. It would be a gamble but for a guy like PJ, I'm thinking he would lean towards taking on a new challenge in Cali. Just a hunch.

At some point PJ is going to leave. Probably not for this job, though. And, when he does leave, it will cost a couple of million to take all the Row the Boat stuff down in the football buildings.

Ah so you are not just wrong and a pessimist but you are chicken[bleep] too.

So if he is coach next year you will weasel out of eating crow by saying he was never offered. Classic bonin.
But you don’t care? Such a fraud.

Whatever way this goes, there will be some very funny takes to look back on when all is said and done.

For me it’s a toss up. In a lot of ways UCLA is about dead even with UMN other than better weather and better onstage recruiting, but with a far superior program playing across town. Guess it comes down to if he wants to gamble on the Row The Boat magic working a third time.

Per Johnson:

A source told the Star Tribune on Friday that he "heard the rumor" and hadn't heard anything else regarding Fleck and the UCLA job. Fleck and Gophers athletic director Mark Coyle could not be reached for comment.

According to Feldman, UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond told the team on Friday that it would have a new coach within 96 hours.

Go Gophers!!

Kids live in Michigan. Doubt would leave the midwest or any job besides Notre Dame. UCLA isn't a step up. The stadium is a half hour from campus. Could go on and on.
PJ’s kids live in St. Louis

As the day went on it seems like he isn't at the top of their list. Vegas usually knows some stuff
