I saw a tweet from Doogie with Gjere listed as RT. Many are listed with -or- like Solomon or Manuel. Solomon listed first. Moulton listedas #2 WR.

So, absolutely no new news...

With practices open to the public I didn't expect anything shocking.

10 true freshmen listed on the depth chart. Will be interesting to see how many play this year.

I think that this is a very telling sign in terms of how our season pans out...there is not a lot of depth on the team, way too many young players everywhere, and kill consistently talks about how we lack "speed" and "athleticism" at the skill positions and pretty much across the board for that matter. I am going to set my expectations as low as possible and just enjoy watching this team hopefully improve a lot.

I didn't understand how the national media was picking us to perform so horrible in the past year or two. You could definitely say that I was guilty of drinking the "kool-aid" per say. This year, however, I think they are pretty much right on in their predictions.

This is probably a stupid question, but on those depth charts what do y, x, and z stand for?

This is probably a stupid question, but on those depth charts what do y, x, and z stand for?

Different reciever positions.

X=Split-end: on the line

Y=Flanker: off the line

Z=Slot Reciever

in pure basic formations.

I think this is the terminology in Coach Kill's system
X-Split End
Y-Tight End
Z-Flanker
V-Slot

It's interesting to see how far Ben Perry has come since last year, same for Shady. I'm getting pumped up for Saturday.

This just occurred to me, Shady is the guy from CDH who used to play running back, correct?

Watkins not listed among top 13 DBs. I heard he had been lining up some at CB this fall. I had expected him to start moving up the depth chart this year at FS.

After attending one of the first couple of practices of the season, my buddy asked me about players I liked who were not one of the projected starters. I told him there was one guy who jumped out to me: Ben Perry. I think the upside on this guy is tremendous, and I'm not surprised at all (actually pleased, since I identified him early on before he was getting a lot of ink) to see him ascend the depth chart this fall.

Notable absences, imo:

Kenny Watkins
Tyrone Bouie
A.J. Barker
Brent Singleton

There are a few shockers here to me.....

* Moulton? I liked what I saw of him. I think he's a playmaker & I think he's got heart, but I thought he'd play slot & outside as the #2 at a couple positions.

* Ge'Shun Harris 3RD STRING!!!??? Wow, didn't see that coming.

* Good to hear Gjere's healthy for USC.

* Garin 3rd string? I know he's been banged up during camp, but man, he started out with the 1's.

* No Campion? Can we assume his foot is still lame? Not sure if injuries have been reported yet?

Great story for Shady. I'm glad he's getting a shot to start. I'm sure Manuel isn't happy though, because, if I remember right, he came to Minnesota because he had the chance to play right away.

Both are listed as second string

For some positions there are two players listed as second string. That is the case for DE where both K. Gregory-McGhee an Matt Garin are listed as second string (Note the OR between their names).

I know he is only a Freshman and might butcher his name but was it Steve Montgomery, the DB from Florida that was supposed to be pretty solid and he is not listed on the 3 deeps. Is it safe to say that he will be redshirting? I see no problem in that since I haven't heard his name much, but assumed going into the year he would maybe get some time due to us being so thin in the secondary.

If I remember correctly, Montgomery is in the 2012 class.

No, Montgomery was 2011. He is here and participating in fall camp. They've either decided he needs a redshirt or he needs to work on some things if he wants to see the field this year.

I have to believe that if they are listed on the depth chart they are going to play at some point this year. Manuel will see plenty of time on the field. There is nickel formations and special teams as well as platooning at some positions.
