Actually, suprised it's not full of vitriol like, "Why would anyone want to play for a team that can't manage the clock" or [INSERT KNEE-JERK REACTION HERE].

That is awesome picture, and glad mom is so supportive. Those are three important players to the future of Gopher football. Hope they are still on board once Claeys and the staff situation is stabalized.

Minneapolis North senior quarterback Tyler Johnson threw for 285 yards, rushed for 186 and accounted for six touchdowns -- five passing and one rushing -- in the Polars' 54-29 Class A state quarterfinal win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

"We came out and did what we needed to do," Johnson said. "Everybody made plays, and we had a lot of good plays today."

After the game, Johnson reaffirmed his commitment to the Gophers, despite Jerry Kill's retirement from the head coaching position because of health concerns.

Johnson said he heard about the news on Wednesday morning when he received a few texts from fellow 2016 commits.

"I'm still going to be a Gopher either way," Johnson said. "It's just crazy to me, but I'd like to thank him for recruiting me and giving me a chance to play for the Gophers."

They've been targeting Amir Watts for DT out of Chicago. I think it would be nice to have to DT's, try to vonvince Garcia comeback or target another one on top of Watts

While I don't know the specifics of JoJo Garcia's decommit and "hanging up his cleats", do we really want someone who no longer has the passion for the game? If not having the coach that recruited him as coach is enough to make him quit the game; I really wonder what his commitment level was in the first place.

I may be totally off-base on the circumstances and desire this kid has for the game; but I've seen this scenario play out many times. There is much more to the football than having the physical gifts and the natural talent; it takes a deep passion for the game. This means weightroom, laps, special diet, playbook study, getting smacked around in practice without having any promise of playing even one down. If JoJo really wants to commit; he could be a great addition to one of our best recruiting classes ever. If not, hopefully he finds what he's looking for.
