What would better free throw shooting get us?

Look at what Shaq shot from the field as opposed to free throws. Many instances like this including with otherwise good shooters who simply sucked at free throws.

Well, part of that can be explained by him being over 7 feet and weighing 325 pounds; he was also pretty agile for his size. He was very tough to stop once he went into his move. That's why Detroit made the very wise decision in the 2004 championship to defend him primarily by denying him the ball.

As a team—maybe. But free throw shooting doesn’t determine other shooting percentages because not all shots are equal—regardless of the defense.

Lol! It sounds like you’re saying Shaq was a great shooter! Guy was mostly dunks and layups.

Wilt also shot a high percentage and was famous for bad free throw %, A much better example than Shaq since he had range.

In his 100 pt game, Wilt was 28 of 32.

He also had a 48 inch vertical.

Why shoot mid-range jumpers when you shoot 60% on closer 2s? Same reason Steph Curry should keep taking an absurd amount of 3s.

Alleged 100pt game. Alleged 48" vertical.

What about Bruce Bowen? There are many examples.

I also hear the world is round. Contrary to what Kylie Irving says.

A win in Weakling Wednesday
This was an odd weakling Wednesday where you have MN and OSU clearly at the bottom and then the rest of the conference was a huge jumble in the middle.

But yeah, hitting clutch free throws down the stretch won us this one tonight. Cooper came up huge at the line.

And he wanted to be at the line. He’s better than f dad one on here have given him credit for

the gophers officially rallying to try not finish last in FT%. They shoot about 80% today and they should get out of the cellar.

You are right that I am being simplistic but the vast majority of the games were never going to be impacted in any way - Wisky was one exception.
Is the % made of 8 shots a game or 20 shots a game? Many factors, but if you are only shooting 8 FT's a game is it a huge factor?

112 teams made under 70% from the line. Only about 25 of those teams attempted fewer than MN. So even making them as a higher % wasn't going to account for many more points. The killer is at the end of the game with it is on the line. Early in the game teams make up for being up or down 1 extra point with possessions.
