I assume you are including Texas Southern because they're favored to be their conference's tourney representative. However, they appear to be the equivalent of the Washington Generals for real teams.

Correct.

The 41 miscellaneous (non-Power 6) teams I selected are a combination of potential at-large teams for 2023-24, low- or mid-major programs with a proven track record within their conference (since 2000) of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, and then simply a hodge-podge of teams I'm interested in following. Some examples of each would be:

Potential At-Large Team: Drake, FAU, New Mexico
Proven Track Record: New Mexico State, Texas Southern, Vermont
Personal Teams of Interest: Maine, North Dakota, Saint Thomas

Little know fact from the Gopher memory bank: Texas Southern defeated Voshon Lenard and the Gophers 71-50 at Williams Arena in December of 1994. Both teams ended up in the NCAA Tournament.

There's a new coach at Providence, but this is a similar type of schedule that got them into the tournament last year (this schedule may be a titch harder) - they had far fewer Quad 1 & 2 games than some other bubble teams, but had a shiny W-L record established on the backs of 11 Q4 wins. Pitt was similar.

Excellent comparison. Off the top of my head NC State might have been in that same boat?

Yes. Providence and NC State got in mostly based on being well over .500 in good, but top-heavy conferences (meaning there were a few weak sisters bolstering their record). The problem with the B1G last year is that you had 13 reasonably competent teams, and that caused bunching around .500 and a team with a 9-11 record finishing in 12th place.

As to the Gophers, they could add the #1 and #2 teams to round out their nonconference schedule - which everyone knows won't happen anyway, but suspend your disbelief - and still be well below the average NET of anyone in the B1G.

Haven't heard any rumors, but I have to imagine that will be compeling matches against quality, recognizable opponents.
Agree, one of ‘em for sure is my guess. Have to believe Ben wants to get tested right before that first Big Ten game in early December? Need a true road game.

The amount of work you do on this is truly remarkable. I think it's a safe assumption that the teams in the "still waiting on" category have at least one slot to fill. There's a ton of P6 teams available ... Cal & Louisville?

Thanks.

Pretty sure Cal’s schedule is already full, but it hasn’t been officially released yet.

If we’re looking for a Power 6 non-conference opponent for the Gophers, these ones have at least 3 or more slots to fill:

Arizona State
Auburn
BYU
Cincinnati
Georgia Tech
Kansas State
Mizzou
NC State
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
Oregon State
Seton Hall
South Carolina
Stanford
Texas
Texas Tech
UConn
Vandy

I’d love a home & home with someone like BYU or Vandy. I’ve never been to Nashville, and I’d love the chance to see a game in Memorial Gymnasium.
