Greetings from a Trojan

Tikited. Trust me. It's easy to hate USC when Lane Kiffin is their coach and their athletic department is shady with violations in football, basketball and tennis. Also, they play "Tribute to Troy" a billion times during a game. By the time the Gopher game is over, you'll want to listen to Rebecca Black nonstop just to get it out of your head.

I was referring to Nebraska L.A. Gopher..

Well Mr. L.A. Gopher, I really don't hate any program save our arch-enemy across town, and I wouldn't be caught dead on their message board...why lower myself to engage in hateful retorts, no program or opposing fans are that important. My only purpose here was to offer some friendly points of interest, nothing more.

It appears you recently signed on to this forum..not an ardent Gopher fan? As to your last comment, let me know your dress size, I'll be happy to send you a matching dress and hair bows so you can fit right in with the rest of the pubescent and vicious gossiping girls in your junior high school. :)

I'll be happy to bow out and let you continue.

I thought you came here for fun banter as well? You can poke fun at the fact our school had "a riot" a couple years ago just because we were celebrating it being warm. I was a student then - although I didn't partake in the activities because of work - you can make fun of me for it. Or the total downward spiral of our basketball team at the end of the season like all my USC friends do.

I know you're being helpful and I appreciate USC fans like yourself who want to make friends with opposing fans. It makes for a better game day experience. To be honest, I grew up a Bruin fan because my parents went there. You can understand why I'm different than other Gopher fans.

As for recently joining. I've come to this site for the past three years. It's just I never thought about signing up to post until this thread popped up. I figured I could also help people with any trip questions.

I'll take a Trojan Song Girl dress if you have one with matching cardinal and gold ribbons. I'm a smaller guy, so maybe a size 4.

We're looking forward to hosting The University of Minnesota fans in Los Angeles on September 3rd. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Trojan fans are fairly laid back, but we love to tailgate, and the later the game, the better...more time to eat, visit the campus and watch the games played on the east coast. Visiting fans are treated well, as long as they are respectful..you'll get lots of offers of food, drink and a guided tour of campus.

A video of campus for anyone who wishes to view..

I'm sure your alumni living in Los Angeles will provide you with information and places to stay or visit, but we wish to make you feel welcome as well, the great thing about programs that actually travel to play games is, you get an opportunity to interact with opposing fans..and learn a little something about their traditions.

Come visit WeAreSC to chat, the board has no word filters and minimal moderation, yet it is a great place to talk some good natured smack.

Hope to see you at the game!

Dang you! I want to go to this game so bad! I'm trying to figure out how to make it happen (work wise and financially). My first memory of football was as a 3 or 4 year old. USC and my Gophers were playing. All I remembered was Tommy Trojan on his horse and O.J.. I've been hooked on football ever since. This is a game I've dreamed of happening for years.

I wanted to go inside the Coliseum when I went out to Cali to see the Gophers (06') take on Cal Berkeley, but the stadium was closed that day.

Anyway, I will be so excited to actually sit inside of one of the top US sports venues. I am hopeful that our Gophers can rise to the challenge and make a game of it.

BTW I went to talk smack on the WeareSC site, but they prohibit drug talk. :)

??? What the hell are you talking about???? What riot? When did I make fun of any Gopher fan????

Gee...join the crowd. My beloved nephew, the apple of my eye, is a Bruin. To make matters worse, he selected fUCLA med school over a top 5 med school - UCSF. I've already donned that hideous baby blue over my Trojan shirt in support, for just a few seconds before my skin broke out in a rash. Such is love.

Wow, so your first post is to come out swinging to a visitor on your board...hate must be stronger than your loyalty to your university to remain silent till now.

Fans are individuals, good and bad in every fanbase, there were even jerks in Nebraska - believe it or not. All it takes are a welcoming few to make one's experience pleasant in someone else's house. I want to be one of those.

I must have done or said something wrong to garner your response. I apologize for that.

Ah...he has a sense of humor.

Well, all I can offer is food and drink on game day to save on your expenses for the trip, I hope you can make it out.

The Old Grey Lady is in need of repair, she's owned and run by three entities - the State of California, the City of Los Angeles, and the Coliseum Commission..inept and bumbling fools all.

USC is in negotiations to purchase the land, which would make the university the landlords, and would give us more say in her upkeep. We do love her, she has seen some of the greatest athletes and coaches in the history (both sides of the field) of CFB as well as hosting two Olympics.

What truly makes the Coliseum "sacred ground" to Trojans is the fact that one of the greatest coaches in USC history (and his Asst Coach) both requested that their ashes be scattered over the field of the Coliseum, and that is where both reside. John McKay and Marv Goux.

The Coliseum also represents two of the universities greatest traditions - football, and her Olympic accomplishments. USC has sent more athletes to the Olympics - and won more medals, than any other university in the country..then some.

Your stadium is much nicer, but you can understand why we love ours.

Hope I did not offend with too much USC info.

Thanks for the hospitality! I would be happy just to shake your hand. By expense I was referring to travel (i can probably make it work) and the biggest factor time off. Just saying I hope I can make it work and why. My favorite team vs my favorite PacTen team.

If I do make it, I'll have my brother lead me to you. Thanks again. Meeting fans like yourself, this is what I love about college football.

Cheers!

BTW No offense, I can only speak for myself, but I love college football and sports history.

Just out of curiosity, TP, who are the Trojans playing in your picture? Oregon State?

Where does the Thundering Herd tailgate? You may have answered this before, but I am too lazy to scroll through the thread.

Also, what are the rules of drinking at the Coliseum? I haven't been there in a long time and I want to know if it's as strict as Dodgers games.

We tailgate on the corner of Menlo and Exposition. White tent with flags and a large banner that reads "We Believe".

Much stricter...and we like it that way. No alcohol sold in the Coliseum, you can serve alcohol in the tailgate areas surrounding the Coliseum. If you plan on walking in the Coliseum drunk after tailgating all day, you'll have to watch the game at a bar in another location if the police catch you. We enjoy watching the game without having to put up with drunken fools, and security is tight, that's why we have few problems.

USC is a private school, so you can serve alcohol at your tailgate on campus, or you can walk around with a drink.

Link to tailgate policy on campus.

more pictures of songgirls please.

Kinda creepy a lady posting links of our Song Girls, but hey...you'll be visiting soon to see the real deal in a four months.

The longest running thread in the history of WeAreSC was titled "What's better than a wet Song Girl?", hundred's of pages and over 100,000 hits.

It was accidently deleted when the site was shut down for maintenance. You have never heard so much crying and whining from grown men, lol.

Here's one link...http://www.bustedcoverage.com/?p=33135&pid=2496

Even our arch-enemy has a Song Girls tribute...

Trojan Princess,
What should we expect the traffic situation to be like after the game? Is it easy to get in and out of the area? I'm trying to make it a double header with the Twins game in Anaheim at 6PM.

Thanks

Nightmare getting out of the game...I would suggest you hang around campus for a while and look around till the traffic subsides a bit.

Saturday evening traffic in LA is just in general more than you'd ever find here, so even aside from game traffic you need to plan on things taking longer. I'm not saying it will bee stop and go traffic on Saturday at 5pm, but there's a good chance you'll be driving lower than the speed limit.

The Song Girls

more pictures of songgirls please.

This is admittedly off topic. Last fall I met my brother-in-law in Mpls for the USC game. He's an SC alum from the early '80's. He sees that Ricki Ellison's son is on the team and mentions that he and Ricki were in school at the same time. Then he says, "Ricki married a song girl and she was from Edina, MN." My brother in law had never been to Minnesota, but he sure as hell remembered that Ricki's ex was from Edina. Bet that she was one hot "Sota chick.

Are there Gopher ladies who visit and post on this MB? We have quite a few on WeAreSC..and we all love to talk FB. But, we're ladies, so I must post a link to another downtown "must do"...the Garment District and the Jewelry Mart. Both within blocks of each other, and USC. If your ladies aren't crazy about football, give them your card, pat them on the head, and send them on their way. :D.

There are definitely CFB crazed women in MN and on Gopherhole. We just don't post as avidly. I, personally, like to observe the friendly banter from a safe distance. Plus, MrGopher is pretty good at presenting our joint opinion (read: He says everything I want to say before I get a chance to say it.)

Your posts have been invaluable in planning this trip for us. MrGopher and I will be staying with my family in Newport Beach for the majority of our trip. My primary question for you is would it be worth it to stay in LA on Friday night? We're thinking it would cut down driving Saturday morning so we could tailgate more and do some wandering around campus. We're recent UMN grads on a pretty tight budget. I'd just like some insider info on whether a hotel room Friday night would be worth the money if we've got a place to stay an hour away. Note: We will have access to a vehicle during our trip.

Thanks again for all your insight and advice.

I would definitely recommend it. Rather you hate, like or love L.A., there is much to do there (L.A. Live is a few blocks away) or a stroll in Old Town Pasadena is nice, and not far.

Enjoy your trip, take in the sights Friday night and arrive early to the campus and stadium on Saturday.

If you're like me, I love visiting the college campuses, even better if you can do so Friday....there are points of interest on campus at USC that are great to visit. Steven Spielberg founded the USC Shoah Foundation (he's on our BOT)... http://dornsife.usc.edu/vhi/.

The School of Cinematic Arts is amazing, with Hollywood memorabilia from George Lucas' private collection. Directions: [url]http://cinema.usc.edu/about/directionsmaps.cfm

Unfortunatley, our new John McKay Athletic Center is under construction, and will not be completed till the beginning of next season. Heritage Hall maybe old, but there is a lot of USC sports history housed there.

Enjoy your trip, and may we have a great, competitive game with no injuries.
