The 3 yr 2.1 million dollar deal is really a 1 year deal because Dorrell is getting fired. Now that Sanford has quickly burned through 4 chances can he expect to make more than ~400K in his next gig? I doubt it. Had he taken a more measured approached he could have developed more slowly and continued on an upward trajectory.

It was 31 point lead and it was tied already in the 2016 Alamo Bowl when Oregon blew a 31-0 lead against TCU.

St. Croix casino odds are still -27.5 MN. Given how Sanford knows the Gophs in detail, I'd be inclined to pick CO beating the spread, but not confident.

That Nebby +11.5 vs Oklahoma spread though... Tempting.

Insider information withstanding, I don't think Mike Sanford can move the ball with his current crop of quarterbacks and skill players.

Upward trajectory to where? He was at Notre Dame as the offensive coordinator at 35 years old, about as high up as you can get as an assistant. He went there from Boise State, Stanford and others. He was a Division I HEAD COACH at age 37. He has made big money. His contract at Colorado is for three years. Usually if they fire you, they have to pay you for the entire contract, or there is some high dollar buyout to get out early.

He would have been an absolute fool to turn down PJ's offer and told him he was unqualified so he would stay at Utah State to worry about an upward trajectory. What would he have learned at Utah State to make him better and to protect a career arch to where? Meanwhile, he will net him more than $2 million in real money in 3 years after taking PJ's offer.

He is 40 years old and probably has $8m-$10m in the bank with many more years of earning potential. There are 60 year old assistant coaches who could only wish they had Sanford's recent career trajectory.

Agree.

Saturday's 62-10 final would have likely been about 24-10 with Sanford refusing to let Tanner attempt a downfield throw in a non-conference game.

This, we can criticize Sanford's coaching all we want (and there's plenty to criticize), but it's hard to argue with the way he has climbed the ladder and made money, whether people believe he deserved it or not.

Sure hope not. I like how our KC used our passing game against WIllini and even allowed the backups to fling a few. We have nothing to gain by going into a shell if we are fortunate enough to get a decent lead. Let the boys play!!! IF the Buffs cant keep up that's their problem.

Don’t look now, but MN leads the conference in total offense and second in scoring offense. First in total defense and scoring defense. Barring something crazy I don’t expect these rankings to change except upward this week. Sure, the competition isn’t great but this looks like a very competitive team that can bury inferior opponents. That hasn’t always been the case.

Colorado is dead last in PAC-12 total and scoring defense. They are also, shockingly, last in scoring and total offense. I will have some popcorn and beverages ready.

Actually, MN leads the NCAA in total offense and also total defense after two games. They are second in scoring defense (to Georgia) and 7th in scoring offense. Of course, Georgia was able to hold Oregon to 3 points and I'm not confident that the Gophers would be able to do that well against the Ducks.

I doubt they watch a lot of other teams' football games, just like head coaches. I suspect that they don't have all that much free time and their wives wouldn't want them to spend it all on watching football.

I think KC is doing in the non-con what Sanford failed to do: take what the defense gives you. W Illinois stacked the box all day? We're going to throw on you. Sanford stuck to the vanilla run game in the same scenario, which allowed a team like BG to beat us at home.

I think we're all happy that Sanford is gone but let's be at least be a little realistic. The Gophers moved the ball on the ground enough to have the 27th best rushing offense with the 5th and 6th string RBs for half of the season last year. They also won 9 games and beat Wisconsin. 6 years ago he would have been praised on this board for having that type of season.

Most of us are judged not only by our best moments but also the worst. There were moments of extreme WTH last year. The team could have been, should have been better.

The Gophers’ offense ranked 99th in total offense and 83rd in scoring offense at the end of Sanford’s second year with the program per Daily Gopher.

And they were still basically even with Wisconsin and Penn St, and ahead of Iowa, Illinois, Rutgers, Indiana, and Northwestern. They were a middle of the road B1G offense despite being down 4 RBs.

Sanford is a terrible OC when it comes to the passing game and I'm happy he's gone. But he wasn't as bad as some are making him out to be either, especially when it comes to the running game.

If that comparison helps you feel better about last season, great.
But us fans know the offensive talent on our roster and what could have been possible if the scheme/play-calling were optimized. We could have won the damn West last year, in spite of all the injuries at RB.

I like our chances of a division title a WHOLE LOT more with KC back calling the offense.

We should score enough on offense to cover unless Colo. gets some surprise scores. I think the D might score a TD, too. Just a feeling. Our D backfield seems in more of a ballhawking mood this year—at least against nonconf competition.

Stats never lie, and what I said is a fact. Plus I agree that we are in a better place now which I've said several times.

We would have covered a 27.5 pt spread at Colorado last year with a Sanford led offense though, yet people are saying that we couldn't move the ball with him...which just isn't true.
