We currently will have 54 scholarship players returning next year. With the current recruiting class of 20 and 11 transfers, that puts us at 85 scholarships, meaning we are at the scholarship limit.

That also doesn't take into account any walk-ons that were given scholarships. These are the walk-ons that'll be here in 2024 that have previously gotten scholarships:

Walk-ons with eligibility left who were awarded scholarships in the past who may get one again (2)
Derik LeCaptain (2024 final year)
Dragan Kesich (2024 final year)

How many will get tampered with and offered more NIL elsewhere to transfer?

Well Koi wouldn’t be a transfer he just wouldn’t come here.

Cooper I thought had to be talked into even coming back for this year, I’m surprised he still had another one if he wants it. Wonder if he hangs it up and just cedes the spot to GJ full time or if he has a taste for playing now and wants to continue the 3-man rotation at Guard?

Guedet probably a really solid depth guy, but Carroll and Ersery have been rock solid and healthy this year (knock on wood!)

Would seem like exactly the kind of thing Fleck laments about losing a guy who just wants to actually play in his last year.

Updated with Corey Smith decommiting.

Updated with Athan transferring. The 2021 class has had an unusual amount of attrition at this point, down to single digit numbers.

A couple of guys on GI are saying at least 10 players were not at practice today. We know who 2 of them are.

My bet is by the end of the song and dance we'll have 12-15 transfers like we have had the past few seasons

Updated with Drew Viotto transferring. We may get to 85 scholarships by the end of the day at this rate. Hope we don't see Darius Taylor's name crop up, but I'm not hopeful.

Updated with Marquese Williams transferring

Updated with JJ Guedet transferring.

Updated with Jacob Lewis transferring. Idk if he had a scholarship originally, but I had him in the list so I've updated my count.

And we that we have hit 85 scholarships before the bowl game! Obviously this will continue to fluctuate and we won't know the final number until the summer.

No formal announcement, but Dino K. is no longer listed on the roster. This combined with his father's comments indicates one more scholarship open.

We almost have to make spots and get to 85. I saw a tweet that no one from Nebraska is in the portal, so they currently project at 20 over the limit.

We've already hit the 85 number funnily enough, but that'll fluctuate as we add people from the portal.

Given that D1 football is de facto professional ball, why are there any eligibility requirements? Let the pros compete for positions as long as they are able. And why retain any academic requirements since they are employees?

Could just call it minor league ball that happens to play in stadiums on college campuses.

Your organizational method (players included in recruiting class) makes perfect sense, but with transfers and those who never red-shirted, leads to some varying eligibility numbers inside recruiting classes. I'm keeping track by years left to play. So, here are the current roster players with 2024 season as their last season of play (some of whom may transfer or retire):

2024 is Last Season:
Cole Kramer
Tyler Cooper
Logan Richter
Daniel Jackson
Danny Stroggow
Justin Walley
Quinn Carroll
Mark Crawford
Jack Henderson
Elijah Spencer
Tyler Bride
Dragan Kesich
Lucas Finnessy
Derik LeCaptain*
Craig McDonald**
* possible non-scholarship
** might have 2025 eligibility

Sounds like a good way to conduct business!

Pull an offer out of spite. That’ll teach em!

These kids, they definitely don’t talk to each other.

I've been contemplating either changing to "by last year eligible" or adding it before/after the current list.

As the portal announcements occur, it becomes evident that we'll be playing out bowl game with a much diminished roster, especially if injuries are still a problem. Should make it interesting. Kind of glad we're in the 5-7 bowl.

Kramer walked and isn't going to be here. He will likely play the bowl game.
