All Things RB Jeffrey Jones Thread

No, he only needed a marginal increase, most people will achieve that simply by taking the test again. If you add in test prep I would be shocked if he didn't qualify.

That is what i was telling myself before he took the test and we haven't heard anything since which leads me to believe that he did not pass on this particular test. If that is true then it is concerning since i believe he had multiple months of test prep and studying to improve his next score by just one point. So if he had that much time to improve his score by that little and couldn't then why would the result be any different when the next ACT is in April and he would much less time to study up when he couldn't when he had more time. Also during the signing day presser coach Kill said that he isn't worried about him qualifying which I took more as coach speak and the attitude of only worry about what you can and can't control and the other stuff will all sort itself out then him actually being confident and in the know of Jeff qualifying. He still does not only have the April test but also an opportunity even after that if he needs it so there is still a very good chance that he does qualify but it is very scary. The one time we actually struck gold and get an MN stud to stay home being our best recruit in 20+ just to see him not qualify would make me cry. This is just my thought process right now on the situation and it is 100% speculation.

I understand why all of us want to know, but I'm having a hard time with the fact that everyone here thinks his test results are or should be public knowledge. I doubt they'll make an announcement about his test scores. I suspect the only way we find out about his status is if he doesn't qualify, otherwise I'd guess we'll be waiting until we see him on the field for fall practice before we know for sure.

Well hopefully if that is the case then that is why we haven't heard anything.

I hear ya on that one. I'm taking the GMAT in a few weeks to try get into Carlson to get an MBA to go with my MD. standardized tests own my life right now...

I didn't study a wink for the GMAT. Then again.....I wasn't trying to get into Carlson. Good luck!

Before anyone panics it's a two step process, get the score, then submit it to the NCAA clearing house. I'm betting nothing is said until Jones has been formally cleared by the NCAA.

Also, don't forget qualifying is a sliding score with ACT and his GPA. They could be waiting to see how he does this quarter/semester in school. So, we could be waiting until June at the earliest. More speculation :)

Unless the guy from in blue is Verne Troyer, that is some impressive vertical.

per ESPN's Q&A:

AIS from Madison, Wis., writes: I seem to remember that Minnesota had a returning 1,000-yard rusher last year in Donnell Kirkwood, before he was limited by injuries. David Cobb put together a great season in his time as the featured back but had to split carries for a while before separating from Rodrick Williams. I'm not a Minnesota fan, but I believe that all three of the runners I mentioned will be back in 2014. Is Jeff Jones that good to expect immediate contributions with a healthy stable of more experienced (and to varying degrees, capable) backs?

Adam Rittenberg: We'll soon find out, AIS, but running back is a position in which freshmen can contribute immediately, and Jones arrives at Minnesota with more fanfare than any of the other backs. You bring up a good point about Kirkwood, who had 926 rushing yards in 2012 but was largely forgotten after his injury and with Cobb's emergence last year. Williams also quietly averaged 5.5 yards per carry last year. Jones clearly won't walk into a major role. He'll have to earn it. But he had a great senior year and has the talent to produce right away and push older players.

per the STrib:

Jeff Jones update

With his school on spring break, Minneapolis Washburn running back Jeff Jones came to the Gophers practice and spent time talking to Kill and the rest of the staff. A four-star recruit, Jones continues to work toward qualifying academically to play Division I by this fall. He’s scheduled to take the ACT exam again April 12.

Go Gophers!!

Wasn't he due to take it around NSD? Take it this means he didn't get a qualifying score then, if I am not mistaken.

What's he doing at practice? Your future is on the line buddy. Should have spent the entire break with a book in front of your face. I know that's harsh, but he got himself into this position.

You honestly think someone should study 24 hours a day?

I want him to pass as much as anyone but to think that would be the case is unrealistic.

Not 24 hours. The part of him not needing to be at practice was sarcastic. He needs to be studying like his life depended on it if this is what he really wants though.

I will believe it when I see it in regards to Jones qualifying.

Definitely not a good sign that he is still trying to get eligible at this point. Would be disappointing but won't be shocking if one of the next updates is about him heading to JC or prep school to get his academics in order but hopefully he can get the passing scores he needs and still get into school this fall.
