All Hail Limegrover

GiI - not all running plays are created equal. This was not the basic, vanilla running scheme of game 1.0-7.0. It wasn't even the vanilla QB running scheme employed out of desperation to ensure pre-season victories over cupcakes. And it wasn't the vanilla passing game employed in the first 1.0-6.5 games. They ran almost the same proportion of runs to passes as many of the previous weeks, but only a fraction of those running plays were vanilla. This is what I, and so many other fans here have been waiting for, a playbook with imagination.

It is painfully obvious that you do not understand what it takes to be a good running team. Even the "Vanilla" plays are not easily successful. Running effectively is incredibly complex. Also when you have a team that runs the option everything is designed to look the same, so a vanilla run play for a short gain may have been the same play call that went for a big gain. Us fans have no idea unless you have inside information about each specific play call.

Quit being stupid in public

Yes, but that enzyme came from a gene that was present in the egg prior to it being a chicken.

BFD. Evolutionary biology dictates that we all evolved from single cell organisms. However, the evolution of the chicken required the egg and the biological parent to be present in order to sustain or evolve the species. Therefore, they are both required and came together as a package deal. Therefore, you are both WRONG! Your posts made us all dumber.

Nothing like direct evidence to back up what was so blatantly obvious. A lot of Gopherholers should be eating crow, but they're too stubbornly ignorant to admit how wrong they are.

LOL - You must have the worst case of an over inflated ego I have ever seen. Your back must be black and blue by now from from all the pats on your back that you are giving yourself. I assume you are doing this because you are young and immature. If you are not then you haven't learned much in your life.

Obviously this is picking nits, and I was thrilled with the offense's performance, but was anyone else flabbergasted by the drive that stalled in NEB territory early in the 4th?
We're up 7. The running game had been chugging along all game, en route to one if our strongest rushing performances in the B1G in recent memory. The clock in running in the fourth quarter, and we just got a first down inside the 35 yard line.
The worst-case scenario is three runs, 5 yards or so, and a FG attempt that would put us up two scores while running a couple minutes off the clock.
So of course, the call is three passes in a row.

I get the go-for-the-jugular thing, but with the running game working that well, I was, and remain, completely nonplussed by the play calls on that series.

Two dropped passes. Not much else to say.

I had the same thought. But, all 3 plays were a straightforward caught ball or proper footing away from first down gains, and it's hard to argue with the calls given how well they should have worked. Except for the first offensive series of the game, Limegrover called a beauty and Nebraska (and Gopher fans?) never had a clue what was coming next.

Yep, all three were well-designed plays that would have/could have worked if not for flaws in the execution. But that's the thing with throwing, sometimes that happens. I'm just surprised that with the run game working, the clock in our favor, and FG range just a few yards away, we didn't try to get there on the ground.

When you're getting your ass handed to you at the line of scrimmage (see Iowa game), opening up the playbook serves little purpose.

Limegrover is not the problem when this team is not firing on all cylinders. I have put this argument to bed in my mind, many of you need to do the same.
I'm with you. Iowa > Nebraska (in regards to oline and front seven on defense).

I had the same exact thoughts as that was happening. It might have worked if the wide receivers would have decided to not audition for the ping-pong team at that juncture, but I was thinking "Clock, clock clock." I'll admit that having watched Gopher football as long as I have, I was probably overreacting to the possibility of a melt-down.

Anyway, I don't give two hoots about who called what or what caused the changes in the game plan. I was very impressed with Donovahn Jones and I'm glad we found a way to get the ball in his hands. Very good-looking athlete.

Interesting quote from Nelson, I thought:

“I think our success is going to put some confidence in the coaches to not be timid with the play calls,” Nelson said. “I think we can really start to build off some of the stuff we’re doing now because we’re really starting to become a dangerous offense.”

I have an opinion on what this means, but the quote can be interpreted many ways. It's clear that these players LOVE the coaching staff, so I'm NOT in any way implying there is (or was) dissension on the ranks. Just saying I thought it was an interesting quote...

Agreed! That was so nice to see. He looked like the only guy on offense who was the type of athlete that teams like Nebraska run out there -- the Abdullah, Martinez, Bell types. He's fast, elusive, and good-sized...hope to see much more of him going forward as he grasps the offense. I was saying in the chat room how exciting we might be on offense a year or two from now with him, Harbison, Wolitarsky, Nelson/Leidner, Edwards...could be fun!

All Hail!
