Reid Travis Picks Stanford Over U

Tyus told @bobsansevere that the Gophers are officially out. I didn't catch the game, but from my understanding, from a friend who is really close to the family, is that it is between Minnesota and Stanford, with Reid being a heavy Minnesota lean, but not too long after the Looney announcement, coach K gave Reid a call and talked for a significant time, so I wouldn't count time out completely out yet, Hard to count Duke out when it comes to convincing a recruit to commit to them

Tyus did not tell Sansevere that. It has been clarified that Tyus said if he were to play with Okafor the Gophers are out.

There's a note on the 247 board that the Gopher staff feels "extremely confident" with their chances of landing Reid. But, apparently Duke's staff feels confident as well.

I know I know, of course both staffs are going to say that.

I have to admit, this is kind of fun. It would be disappointing to miss out on him, but it's better to be in the mix than not. It's just a good feeling when it's a good kid and good family and you know they're making the decision for the right reasons. There would be no shame in losing out to schools like Duke and Stanford, and it would be a big feather in the cap to beat those programs out.

I just talked to Jarvis Johnson at high performance and he's like dude nobody knws where Reid is going to go he where's Gopher, duke, and Stanford gear every other day. So not even Jarvis knws.

Thanks for the info Fennell. Do you know Jarvis well? Do you think a RT commit would help our chances with him?

In all honesty no Idk him well but I'm buddies with his former teammate Tyler Moore, and Jarvis is playing in the elite 80 tourney today at high performance , but I knw Pulley

This is the week for an all-out barrage of Maroon and Gold love at Reid on Twitter. Do it!

I bet Coach K and Dawkins are patting each other on the back when they talk to Reid, and trying to gang up on MN to give themselves a better shot.

The one thing that I have not heard anyone talk about is this... flip saunders the new GM of the timberwolves... flip being a U alum... if said player say reid travis or any other recruit down the road... who maybe has the same skill set as a player from college school _____ you really think he would draft a player from blank school instead of someone from Minnesota... he would take the kid from Minnesota if they are on the same playing level

That was really hard to read and follow, but are you saying Flip would draft someone that played at Minnesota before he'd draft someone at any other school? Flip doesn't care where a kid played, he is interested in drafting the best possible player, period.

...with good reason

Well, that's not really true. Flip and McHale had a history of drafting Gophers in the second round, just to throw the program a break. Which was a bad idea, to be honest, but it's a policy they used to pursue.

That seemingly ended last year with Mbakwe and Rodney...

No way Kevin or Flip would draft a gopher in the second round "just to throw the program a break" Patently absurd .

I did say if player A gopher or Player B other school were rated equal on talent level.. of course they won't draft a gopher if the other player is rated higher.. But is sure does help that flip is from the U...

Why else would an NBA team draft Rick Rickert?

(Okay, that was mean. Rick was a great player for the U for a few years, but I still can't get over him leaving early and then having no NBA career, except for getting punched in the face by KG.)

In your defense, given 2 equal players, Flip would likely choose the Gopher. Not because he is an Alum, but because it would sell more tickets.

We have definitely written about the limitations of the predictions on 247 at length, so I'm not declaring victory yet.....but, it is interesting to see a couple of the Duke votes are now shifting back to the Gophers today. It will be fun to watch that this week.

Duke out?
Not gonna say "I told you so," but...

I'm between Stanford and Minnesota. Part of me thinks Duke is only on the list because it's Duke. None of the others are perceived basketball powers, so that doesn't seem as important to him. (IMO)

Now, if he would eliminate Stanford tomorrow it would make the wait for a Friday decision much easier.

I know he said the Humpheries decision wouldn't impact Travis' choice as I think Travis is better, but it's gotta help, considering Carlson can give one a great business education.

Clarification: Sucker punched by KG. KG would never have the balls to face a guy up & punch him. If you're a 2nd rounder in camp & the star player sucker punches you, you're as good as cut from the team.

Not gonna say "I told you so," but...

Allow me to say I told everyone so last year at this time. I got some solid inside info that Mich St had no real shot. That Reid grew up a Gopher fan, wanted to stay home & play for the U, and that the only team he'd really consider over us was Stanford if they offered (which they did of course).
