Perhaps I'm not in the know, but who is Cali McE? Is he a ringer Coach Fleck brought in that none of us know about (except Typo Jon?).

There are no expectations for year 1 of Rhule’s Nebraska, but they would like to have as much as they can to show fans that there is hope around the corner.

A win vs Minnesota would be a nice feather, for such a season where a bowl game isn’t guaranteed.


On the other hand, the Gophers badly need this game, a home game to boot. And the last two years have a few examples of home games that we “should not have lost”. (BG, ILL, Purdue)

This is definitely an “everything to lose” game for the Gophers. The win is expected, a loss would be very disappointing.

Add in that it’s Week 1 with no preseason in college, and you could easily see why this might be one of the most frustrating, aggravating, and anxiety inducing openers for Fleck since he’s been here.

Odd thing is that most of PJ’s head-scratching losses, and near losses, have come at home. Hope he gets that fixed this year.

which boils down to - the team that plays better will win the game.

so - one team is installing entirely new offensive and defensive systems.
the other team is tweaking its offense.

I would say the team making the most changes also has a bigger challenge when it comes to execution.

this game might look different if it was being played in week #6 or #7. but it's being played in week #1. maybe Nebraska comes out with perfect execution right off the bat - but I'm not going to bet my life savings on it.

He is a more entertaining read when NE loses.
The game is particularly important for MN because their conference schedule and the NC game are very challenging.

I've been to Lincoln multiple times and talked to huskers every game they've played in Minnesota -- I haven't found the basis in the hundreds of interactions I've had surrounding the games. It just seems to be a canard that gets repeated because it's fun to have a program so far beneath us to beat up upon (which it is!)

there is a difference between thinking that a team "should" do something, and that they "will" do something.

I used to work with two die-hard Nebraska fans. they're not crazy - they see what the team is doing and they realize the issues - but in their hearts, they still believe that Nebraska could return to the Glory Days of Tom Osborne if they could just hire the right coach.

You can argue whether that makes them delusional or hopeful. Now, if Nebraska goes through a 'wilderness years' period as long as the Gopher program did, things may change.
