I'm talking B1G tournament now. But what happens if:

7. Ohio State 9-11
8. Minnesota 8-12
8. Illinois 8-12
8. Rutgers 8-12
8. Indiana 8-12

with Nebraska, NW and Penn State ending up at the bottom of the conference. Looking at the schedules, it could easily happen.

Minnesota 8-12
vs. Purdue L (if Purdue wins out the win the B1G all by themselves)
at Maryland L

Finish 8-12

Illinois 6-11
vs NW W
vs. Indiana L
@ Penn State W

Finish 8-12

Rutgers 6-11
@ Iowa W
vs. Penn State W
@ Indiana L

Finish 8-12

Indiana 6-12
@ Illinois W
vs. Rutgers W

Finish 8-12

Ohio State 8-10
@ NW W
vs Wisconsin L

Finish 9-11

One of the 8-12 teams would be the 11th seed and have to play the first day....

It would first go to H2H against the group

MN 3-2
Indiana 3-2
Rutgers 2-3
IL 2-3

So we'd be the 8 or 9. Now, it is not clear to me whether they go back to H2H once it's down to 2 teams or if they proceed to the next step (record against each individual conference team starting with the #1 seed), but either way we'd play Indiana so it doesn't really matter. Illinois beat Rutgers head to head AND beat a higher team in the big ten standings (MSU) so they should get the ten, and poor Rutgers would be in the Wednesday game.
