Somehow every day is "donut day", polar bear day, etc. Not sure how this started, I'm just curious how this happened? Maybe it is a recent thing, or not?
 



Regarding your question, I don't have an answer. My guess is this has been going on for a long time. It's just the internet makes it easier to push to the forefront.

Sorry, this is a running joke that goes back to a Gophers opponent, a southern school, that the Gophers played. Fans from the school started trolling the board. Among the "complaints" about Minnesota was the cold and how dangerous Minneapolis was/ is. IIRC one fan was complaining about all of the stabbings that took place here.

Having fun at their expense, the knife wielding polar bear was born. Someone still has the Knive wielding Polar bear as their avatar.

I am hoping that someone can step in and tell the story better than I did. I don't remember all of the details.
