Two weeks into the 2013-14 season and the No. 1 University of Minnesota men’s hockey program has already earned four weekly honors from the Big Ten Conference. Sam Warning was named the conference’s First Star while Justin Kloos was honored as the league’s Third Star this week.

Warning, who sits tied for first in the NCAA in scoring this year with nine point (five goals, four assists) picked up his second-straight Big Ten honor after tallying five points in Minnesota’s weekend sweep at Bemidji State. The junior forward recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in Friday’s 6-3 win including an assist on the game-deciding goal before scoring a pair of goals including the game winner in Saturday’s 5-1 victory. Warning, who was named the Big Ten’s Second Star last week, has now tallied three multi-point games this season and has scored a goal in all four games this season.

Kloos, meanwhile, matched his teammate’s five points over the weekend with a goal and four assists in Minnesota’s sweep over the Beavers. Now tied with teammate Hudson Fasching for the Big Ten rookie scoring lead (2-4—6), Kloos netted a pair of assists on Friday before scoring a goal and adding two more helpers in Saturday’s series finale.

No. 1 Minnesota returns to action this weekend with a nonconference showdown against No. 5 Boston College at Mariucci Arena on Friday and Sunday.
