Patience is key in this time of transition. Rules are changing, $$$ is changing, kids values are changing, and the landscape is changing.

The QB from a top 6 team is going to Syracuse
The top FCS QB is going to Minnesota
Kids are moving up and kids are moving down in play.
Some schools are sticking to development of HS kids and some are heavier in the portal. It will be season by season and based on building a roster to be completive the next season.

From 2017 to 2021, the final five cycles prior to NIL (name, image and likeness), the five most successful recruiting schools that year signed an average of 45.4 of the top 100 recruits, per the 247 Composite rankings. If you stretch back a decade, it’s 43.7.

Currently, 98 of the top 100 are committed and the five schools with the most top-100 commitments collectively have just 34 of them — Georgia (10), Alabama (6), Ohio State (6), Florida State (6) and Texas (6)."
 

No one will have the depth they once had at high or middle tier programs. No good player is getting stuck on the bench anymore. They will transfer to another team with a hole at their position and fill it. That SHOULD increase parity and year-to-year volatility.

It's not all about the $$$ for all kids. Kids want to play, so that is still going to be a big factor in the equation.
 

Or, can you just sweep all that aside to a degree, just forget about it if you have a QB who makes plays?
Sure, you need solid parts in your other players but the TCU QB last year made plays until he was overwhelmed in the championship. Jerry Kill's QB won him 10 games...two guys who just make plays when you need them.
I think you gotta have a QB to win.... unless you are Iowa.

A little of this is a bit incomplete. Saying OSUs qb is going to Syracuse is not all happening here. He’s being replaced by a guy who’s going to be an earlier heisman front runner who’s had a very productive career (and they landed another transfer who was a top 150 guy). The top teams (who have money) can turn over their team every single year and it’s not a problem. MN and the like will be fillers for them where they have needs. The depth question will be interesting, but to cite qb transfer locations is far too simplistic as they’re one of the most common positions to transfer as only one plays unless there’s an injury, versus every other position aside from kicker sees multiple guys play. The numbers are a little more spread this year from HS guys, but that’s also because why would OSUAlabama pay a depth HS guy who will redshirt/play ST when they can sign a transfer who’s proven and then buy that kid the next year when their flock leaves to the NFL?

Time will tell. Some examples of classes top non-playoff teams.

Georgia currently has 17 guys leaving and 1 coming in through the portal and 27 HS commits.

Oregon has 23 HS kids coming in with 4 transfers in (2QB's) and 10 out.

tOSU has 15 guys leaving and zero committed to coming in. 22 HS kids coming in.

Florida State has 23 HS kids committed and 14 leaving and 1 portal commit.

It will be interesting to see how many schools wait until after Spring Ball to do more in the transfer portal.

36 P5 Schools are still bringing in over 20 HS kids tomorrow. Still a lot of trickle down going to happen from now through May window for transfers.

Yeah, seems to go in waves. First wave is the end of the season.....then after bowl games it picks up some and then again around spring ball.

For the kids we would need to win the Big Ten, it’s way more of a factor. Probably 90% vs 10% factor.

The kids we can get, ie the kids just happy to be getting P5 offers, sure it’s not as big a factor.

Who is the "they" you're referring to? Top 10 recruits? I have zero doubt you're correct, if that is what you were saying.

How does that disprove that the "sky is falling" for the Gophers, when now in the NIL age everyone and their grandmother is looking for the best NIL deal they can get?
