"The spread"

A lot of people refer to spread offenses as "the" spread. This is a stupid and incorrect way to call these offenses because there are so many different types of spread offenses. Texas Tech, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, and Northwestern all run spread offenses, but they are all very different. When people say we should or shouldn't run "the" spread, what kind of offense is that referring to? This is really annoying.

"Spread" refers to the formations, ie the splits at the line and the use of 2-3 WRs on every play. It has nothing to do with being a running team vs a passing team. It is similar to Pro style offenses. Some pro styles prefer to run more and some prefer to pass first.

All I am saying is there is no such thing as "the" spread. People say it like it refers to one type of offense when there are really several types of offenses that could be called spread offenses.

You didnt read what I wrote did you. Pro Style, Spread, Wishbone and others refer to the formations, not the type of plays an offense runs.
