Texas Tech, Kentucky and Minnesota are the most popular college basketball teams in the country by county, according to a map powered by Vivid Seats college basketball ticket sales data.

The Lone Star State has by far the most counties of any state, including a number of sparsely populated counties in the western half of the state. That and the team's Final Four run in 2018 propel Texas Tech to the top of the list.

College basketball blue blood Kentucky is three counties behind with 116, followed by Minnesota at 97 counties. Arkansas (96) and Nebraska (88) round out the Top 5.

Perennial powerhouse Duke claims 20 counties--though just three at in North Carolina. The Blue Devils clearly have a national fan base but face stiff competition in their own state from the likes of North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest.

Would prefer a national relevance.

Go Gophers!!

This is like the electoral college, where land area means more than actual numbers of fans/people.

Nobody in North Carolina likes North Carolina much. Michigan also doesn't get much love in Michigan.

This may be the most worthless data ever produced regarding college basketball.

You literally have that backwards.

Like all your basketball takes actually.

Both those schools have a hundred times as many fans nationally.

100x seems unlikely. Lets say the gophers have 500,000 fans...which I bet is about right because a lot of alumni are “fans”. Anyway, that would mean these schools have 50,000,000 fans each. I doubt there are 100,500,000 college hoops fans and that assumes no one likes any other team.

Not trying to pick on you dude but please take a 7th grade civics class, or at least consult Wikipedia, before you start making statements line this. The number of votes you get in the electoral college depends on the size of your population. The amount of land area is literally irrelevant.
