It's amazing looking at this list:

- Quit during Season 2
- Left for draft too soon or too late, if he had stayed 4 years he'd be hanging from the Rafters
- We won 3 BT games with him, and I think he had 3 assists in his one season.
- Never played for us.
- Hoping Dennis bucks the trend!

per STrib:

Five-star recruits don't often commit to the Gophers, as Californian Dennis Evans did Monday night. Here are five who were ranked in the top 20 players in the country by various recruiting ranking services:
  • Joel Przybilla, center, Monticello: Ranked No. 4 by All-Star Report (Class of 1998)
  • Rick Rickert, forward, Duluth East: No. 6 Future Stars (Class of 2001)
  • Kris Humphries, forward, Hopkins: No. 8 Hoop Scoop (Class of 2003)
  • Royce White, forward, DeLaSalle/Hopkins: No. 19 Rivals (Class of 2009)
  • Dennis Evans, center, Riverside (Calif.) Hillcrest: No. 13 Rivals (Class of 2023)

Go Gophers!!

He's already bucked the trend IMO :) (from the article I posted) -

Interest picked up for Evans from other top-tier Power Five basketball programs this fall, but the Gophers remained at the top of his list. Evans is different. He wasn't impressed by bigger NIL opportunities or championship pedigree.

Evans doesn't brag about his status as a game-changing prospect for the Gophers.

Really fun to see an out of state commit on this list.

Thinking about Rickert, man that kid got some bad advice. Likely would have been a first rounder after his freshman year, sophomore year was not the year to go out, by that point in time, he lost a tad of the "freshman phenom" narrative, but then if he stayed 4 years he likely would have put an assault on the MN record books and even some BT record books. Oh well.

A list full of promise and nothing more.

The top Gopher football recruits list is similar but less depressing.
