Snarky but Fairly Accurate 2023 Recap

The bit about BSM having surgery to replace his hands with frying pans was cute, but a tough shot.
In 13 games, only two offensive plays of 40+ yards. Ouch. Defense that was shredded in several toss-up games.
If in the new B1G PJ wants to achieve a .500 record, we have to develop a passing game that is a credible threat to compliment our running game and to present an offense that isn't so predictable. Grinding 4 or 5 RBs to dust each year will win some games, but not enough.

KC is so far the only QB/OC that has been able to develop a credible passing game.

I’ll give Harbaugh 24 to see what happens with MaxBro.

beneath the sarcasm, the point I get out of this is that the author feels the team's problems rested more on the defense than on the offense.

Hey - this is nothing new. Fleck's system is based on the defense keeping the game close so that the offense doesn't have to score 30+ points to win a game.

so what happened in 2023:

defense allows under 20 pts in a game: team goes 4-0
defense allows between 20 & 30 pts: team goes 2-2
defense allows more than 30 pts: team goes 0-5.

when the defense struggled, the offense wasn't good enough to bail out the defense.

except Rutgers would be considered our peer at this point in time. And they're trending up while were trending down. AK is not very good but he didn't transfer to a (currently) weaker program.

One off year is a downward trend? Seriously?
Look at both team's conference record for the past few seasons and its quite obvious. We have been slipping down and they are climbing up. Don't let the maroon and gold glasses fool you, they are at the same spot we are currently. Some would put them ahead of us in a B1G power ranking.

Good spot to be in to beat expectations, right?

Will be very interesting to see how this team will be with an experienced QB and a change in DC.

I don't have exact facts/figures, but when the schedule looks tough, Fleck's Gophers seem to outperform expectations. However, when the schedule looks easy, they seem to struggle. Good thing we have a daunting schedule next year!

Oh yeah that's what we need ... more snark in sports coverage ... never seen that before.

Lol you say that like it's something unheard of. The Gophs being underrepresented in subjective power rankings is a tale as old as time. I'd venture the only time we were believed to be worth a damn by preseason prognosticators was 2020 and you know how that season worked out for the entire country. We constantly have to prove people wrong, for better or for worse.
