The Gophers’ regular-season home football attendance averages of 43,814 — 86.2 percent of stadium capacity — ranked 10th in the Big Ten, ahead of just Indiana, Maryland, Northwestern and Purdue.
Rutgers, where former Gophers coach Jerry Kill is the new offensive coordinator, drew more spectators than Minnesota, averaging 44,798.
Kill’s $600,000 first-year salary, with annual raises of $25,000 each for the next two years, is a record contract for a Rutgers assistant, NJ.com reports.
Gophers athletics director Mark Coyle, when he was AD at Boise State, hired Bryan Harsin at age 38 as head football coach in 2014. Through this season, Harsin’s Boise State teams are 31-8, averaging more than 10 victories a season.
Harsin’s contract, reportedly worth $1.25 million a season, runs through 2019. Coyle also hired Dino Babers at Syracuse, which this season was 4-8 in his first year.
Kill’s contract, which he walked away from at Minnesota, was $2.5 million annually. Current Gophers coach Tracy Claeys’ contract averages $1.5 million a year through 2018.
