Preseason Coaches Poll released

Seems about right. We finished with the same record as Wisconsin and beat them head to head so only natural that they should be in the top 20 (23 spots ahead of us) to start the next season.

Pre season polls are such a joke. MSU is going to be an interesting one to watch this year. I don't think they are anything close to as good as their record last year would indicate. They paid their coach Championship level money but I don't know that they are going to see results that come anywhere close to justifying the contract they gave him.

I don't believe in MSU, either. Big opportunity for us. They are likely to be 3-0 and still ranked 14 or higher when they play us. Win that game on the road and we should be ranked.

I’m feeling 2019 vibes. In 2019 the Gophers were coming off the 2018 season where something “clicked” and the Rob Smith firing was the turning point. It was obvious to anyone who follows the program. The team finished the season with a win over Wisconsin and a dominant bowl game. Pre season 2019 was very promising despite the media picking the Gophers near the bottom of the B1G West and lots of national and even regional folks predicting another 6-6 season for 2019.

Here we go again. Lots of signs the team should contend for the West title again. Coming off a convincing win against Wisconsin again. Another seemingly positive results coordinator firing and rehiring. No matter… preseason ranking in the 40’s.

The No-respect card is firmly there to be played again this season.

Yawn!

There will always be 4-5 teams that surprise and the same that disappoint. Or more.

I don't believe that this team will be the 43rd ranked team at the end of the year!

Of all of the football polls, the coach's poll has the least veracity.
Does anyone think that when asked to fill out the poll a FB HC dutifully sits down and ponders how to accurately fill out the poll?
The job goes to the water boy or whatever they call those fellows today.

Any casinos or sportsbooks allow betting on over/under with this poll?

We couldn't ask for a better poll in the middle of August. It's hot outside. Guys are sick of going against the same partners over and over and now the coaches...the coaches rank us 43rd.!? That has to provide some juice through the coming dog days of summer practices.

don't see one but FanDuel has an over/under 7.5 wins for the regular season that ill bet on!
Yes, I will be. Heading down to Diamond Jo’s in a couple weeks. Need to cash in my winning ticket from last year and roll over those winnings.

Over/under vs. the end of season coach’s poll?
That's what I was hoping, I'd put big money on that. It was a bit tongue in cheek, I'm sure there is no betting option like that.

A Hawkeye acquaintance of mine sent me this list. He said Iowa is where it should be, but that Minnesota should be higher...neck and neck with the Hawkeyes. His interesting take on Minnesota's ranking is that CFB coaches don't like PJ Fleck and this is one way they can get a jab in. It does sound plausible.

The only thing I’ll say, besides I don’t mind having a little bullet board material, is that this does put us behind the 8 ball a bit. I know if we win every game it doesn’t matter, but things like this do matter because when we undoubtedly lose a game it’s just the ammo needed to put us behind a 2 loss SEC team (as the joke goes).
