When Gabe Kalscheur was feeling it in the NCAA Tournament last March, the Gophers guard strummed an air guitar on the court after hitting a shot during his 24-point outing in a first-round victory over Louisville.

Last Saturday, Kalscheur was hot again, and the Edina native did a swooping move with one arm as if he was hitting a big chord during a career-high 34-point performance in the 85-66 victory over Oklahoma State.

His celebration seemed much more subtle against the Cowboys, and it might have even slipped past coach Richard Pitino, who jokingly called out Kalscheur during March Madness a year ago when he teased: “C’mon, act like you’ve been there before.”

But Minnesota will take the boost Kalscheur gave them in a quality win in Tulsa, Okla., as well as the lift from Marcus Carr’s 35-point outburst in the 84-71 upset of then-No. 3-ranked Ohio State on Dec. 15. Those victories have injected life into the U’s season.

Go Gophers!!
