PP; Four-star wing Djuan Piper and three-star forward A.D. Gueye to visit this weeken

I think dropping basketball and transferring will have the same net effect of adding another scholarship. It would not surprise me if he did transfer and tried to doubleup again. He seemed pretty committed to doing it even after going through the cycle once. Full ride track scholarships are pretty rare, too. That may influence his decision.

For what it's worth, and I think you know this but I'll state it for those that done, we cannot simply classify him as a track scholarship either. He's a basketball scholarship athlete if he plays basketball and receives money from the U, period.

Hopefully he watched that stinker UW put up against Colorado last night, I know I did....

Well someone always transfers (probably Wally this year) so another scholarship will be freed up. Piper and Mahoud is the dream.

Right now, there is a chance of three transfers, two obvious, one not so much. Piper loved his visit!

Is this just personal speculation, or do you actually have some legit info?

Mav - graduating
Austin - graduating
Malik - graduating

Mo Walker - RS Junior - won't transfer because of 5 year rule unless he graduates - still probably wouldn't transfer
EE - RS Junior - won't transfer because of 5 year rule unless he graduates - still probably wouldn't transfer
Oto - RS Junior - won't transfer because of 5 year rule, unless he graduates, but his fiancé is MN
Dre Hollins - Junior - won't transfer
Dre Mathieu - Junior - won't transfer
Wally - Sophomore - Could transfer
Joey King - Sophomore - Won't transfer
Daquein McNeil - Freshman - Won't transfer
Charles Buggs - RS Freshman - Could transfer

I think 3 transfers is unlikely unless Oto graduates and him and his fiancé decide to go elsewhere.

I assume you are talking Wally and Buggs as the obvious. The other being?...

I see absolutely no chance of a third.

Yeah that is my hope as well.

Mason
Piper
Morris
Martin
Mahmoud

That would be a hell of a 5-player class. We'd have a lot more depth going into next year than we do this year.

That would also be a decent starting 5 in a few years. Add in another good PG, a wing, and a big and we'd have a solid 8 man rotation.

I don't see Buggs going to another D-1 as a likely scenario either. He loses a year of eligibility in the transfer because of the previous redshirt. If he goes Aliou Kane on us and goes to a lower level or NAIA, he could go since I think he plays right away when going down the ladder. That would mean Pitino has given up on him. As noted, he is only a freshman and has the physical acumen to play. I hope they don't give up too soon. I would love to see him guarding the pass in on the press after made shots.

I expect at least one transfer that is obvious, and one more that may not be on the radar. It seems to always happen.

2014 Center becoming a big target for Pitino?(cardinal site so talking Dad Pitino...)
“Coming over from Egypt in September to West Oaks in Florida, the talent that the recent import has brought to his Sunshine State based squad is absolutely fascinating to watch. Standing a legit 7’1, Mahmoud can do things on the floor that some 6’5 prospect cannot even do. More of a face-up power forward than a center, the Egyptian big moves remarkably fluid for his size and stature on the perimeter. He can step out and shoot the 3, display an unbelievably graceful floater in the lane, and post-up his man and use an effective up-and-under move on the block. Defensively, Mahmoud posted four steals in his first outing, and once his competitors saw him compete, he altered many shots in and out of his area and was super effective in throwing away shots at the bucket due to his light feet and giant length.”

You could speculate on possible reasons for everyone except Mathieu and King (both of whom just transferred here). Who knows. And it's probably pointless to speculate, because there is a "chance" of virtually anything. McNeil might be homesick, Andre might want to play exclusively PG his last year before possible pro's, Oto might want to take his degree and be the man somewhere his last year, Mo and Elliot both might want to start and log the majority of C minutes. You just never know. Especially since we'll have 3 guys next year who are graduates and could immediately be eligible somewhere else. Hopefully everyone is happy and sees what we can accomplish next year, and there will be no cause for alarm.

A little too much specialization for my taste. Wally has been here two years and has shown nothing.

On a side note: What if Wally were to transfer to another D1 school to concentrate solely on track and receive a full track scholarship. Would he still have to sit out a year of track?

I tend to roll my eyes at posts like this from guys who have 23 posts and offer no credentials..........that said.......

Yep. Question - are any of these guys on-track to graduate this year?

1. Andre Hollins - I do NOT dismiss his possible desire to play PG. It's his only chance at NBA, IMHO.

2. Oto - looking more-and-more like he will be "Mav-d" if we get some recruits we are targeting and Joey holds his own in his new starting role.

3. Elliot - being overtaken by Mo, seems like the kind of guy that could get frustrated and bail - TOTAL UNSUPPORTED SPECULATION

As long as Rachel stays here , let's hope that love conquers all.

I am sorry that I dont have enough free time in my life to have 6, 061 posts. I guess I have a new goal! By the way, Andre is NOT leaving.

why can't wally stay here and play on the team but just be on a track scholarship? He does more for that sport anyways. so track would have more to lose if he left, so why don't they give him a scholarship, and allow him to play with basketball team if he and pitino wants, but allowing the team to have extra scholarship. Is there a rule against this or something? just seems like a logical thing to do

This is why I like the fact that he likes Louisville, I'm hoping that daddy pitino could possibly hint to him that Minnesota would be a great option for him if not Louisville due to the fact of all the bigs they have gotten in this recruiting class. Not that he has to, kid pitino can mention to him how they have just gotten those recruits, and that if he liked louisville so much, that minnesota would be a good option considering he is the coaches son, and has learned a lot under him, and runs the same system.

Looks like they have 3 bigs signed for 2014, Chinanu Onuaku, Jaylen Johnson, both 4 stars, and Matz Stockman, a high 3 star who is also a 7 footer, so I'm not sure why louisville is going after him, guess you can never have too many bigs, but he could also be helping son pitino, maybe I'm just being a bit optimistic

should also add that they are going after 2 other bigs and are in good position with both. One is Bakary Konate and the other is Michal Cekovsky, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think kid pitino let his father about Cekovsky, if not him, was definitely another big, so dad should return the favor

Because the NCAA won't allow it.

If you play multiple sports with football or basketball being one of them, you must be on FB or BB scholarship with FB taking precedence.

Because the SEC would use scholarships from other sports to sign twice as many football players.

Don't be offended, TF and there's no reason to get smart. As you can imagine, we have folks pass through here with new user ids to troll for a few posts, never to be seen again. As I said, you offered no credentials, you gave no evidence and you were (quite likely intentionally) vague. Even so, I carried your "claim" out further and suggested a couple names that might surprise if they were graduating.

So, now you claim Andre is not leaving. Great - I sure don't want him to.

Do you want to offer any more information to make us believe you have the first bit of inside information? Or should we just trust you? If it's the latter, I don't. That's all. Why don't you tell us who the surprise is (and the other two, while you are at it)? If you can attempt to prove yourself legit, I'm sure everyone here is interested. What is your connection? How do you get your information?

I was at that game. OMG was Washington terrible. We killed them without our star and 6th man. I was thinking at the game…Piper can't pick Washington over Minnesota after seeing the barn this weekend.

I am sorry. Let me introduce myself. I am a lifelong gopher fan, mostly basketball. I am a 40 year old multi-business owner in northwest WI and Eastern MN. All in the hospitality industry.
Through my business connections, I have close connections with the Pitino family, and the Blake family, which I already disclosed in an earlier post. I did not mean to get smart, just forgot the smiley face!
