Paul Chryst poised to return to UW as head coach, according to source

If the Badgers hired God as their football coach, doom and gloom and the downfall of the program woukd be predicted on this board.

Who knows how Chryst will do, but the hire makes a lot of sense for many reasons. It is fumny how all the Gophers insiders on this board know exactly what Alvarez does in his AD job at Wisconsin. I am going to come over here more often so I can get the scoop.

Who knows, Chryst may even be the first Badgers coach to lose to the Gophers in over a decade.

What's equally funny is how you only read what you wanted to read in this thread so you could make this very post. More posters said this was a good/solid/decent hire. Some questioned his record as a head coach so far (the same thing some Badger fans are saying). A few people said it isn't a good hire. Not sure why you're shocked fans of a rival are generally a little more pessimistic about the hire than your fans. I bet the exact same thing happened when Kill was hired.

Badger fans said before this year that the Gophers had no shot of winning more than 6 games this year. I also saw posts prior to this season saying Cobb's season last year was a fluke, that he isn't very good, and that he wouldn't get to 1,000 yards this year. Does that mean all Badger fans thought that?

Also, the part about Alvarez, again there are Badger fans who are saying the same thing. It's not like this is something Gopher fans made up. It very well may be false, but it is a rumor.

While i expect it to be Chryst, just heard a clip of Alvarez on the radio refuting the report of the hire. Says no one has been hired at this time.....or something to that effect. He said the search was ongoing and they would make the right hire.

He made it sound like Anderson left because he and family liked west coast better.

Alvarez had to say that. Apparently they have to post the job for xx number of days before hiring somebody. Not unusual either.

Anyone going to submit their application?

Most fans I know never hated him for a second. He needed to leave and be a head coach somewhere else. He has always been clear that this was his destination job. He is the best person we could hire now.

The crap about BA meddling in the program is just plain false. GA has flatly denied it. I am much more worried about who PC hires as his DC and how they deal with our current defensive recruits that were recruited with the 3-4 in mind.

I call bullsh!t on 100% of this post. All lies. All.

From the job posting, "Other qualifications include the ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and administrators, faculty, staff and students." i.e. You must be OK with being BA's b****

Of course they liked the west coast- furthest away from BA

From the job posting, "In addition to the Barry Alvarez trophy in the head coach's office, a larger replica will be delivered to the head coach's home and be placed in an area viewable from the street."

Throwing my support behind the "Captain of Awesome". How can you not?

I think this sentence in my cover letter will really make it a hard decision for them: "I won my fantasy football league 3 out of the last 4 years so I know how to evaluate talent and game plan."

I'm no amateur.

While I wish you well, for a guy with Gopher AND Iowa connections to get the job over a guy who's title is "Captain Awesome"? Sorry, just don't see that happening.

My Madden strategy is no fluke. Onside kick every time, four deep. Real NFL Blitz stuff. Went away for a while but it's gonna make a comeback, just like the single wing.

Pfff, Madden is too easy. Tecmo Bowl is where you really show off your talents. You only get four plays to choose from!

As surprising as the resignation was, this hiring is equally unsurprising.

Do people really have facts about Barry Alvarez being to overbearing as an AD? I've heard Glen Mason say on a couple occasions the he is not that AD. He said that Bielema and Andersen both said over the years to him that Alvarez stayed away, but always had an open door if they had questions.

I think Bielema left for greener pastures and to get out of the Alvarez shadow. Doesn't mean he didn't like the guy, just wanted to build his own thing. All coaches at Wisconsin will be compared to Barry. He is the savior to the fan base.

Andersen just wanted to leave and head west.

If you work your picture into the application I think you have a shot. I not Wisconsin then the next open SEC job.
