Parrish on the status of college basketball

Here's the line that really stings:

"College basketball is closer to college baseball than college football in terms of the importance placed on the things that will shape leagues."

Sad, but true.

I'm glad that Parrish sees the need for KU to get itself into the ACC, which will create the nation's top basketball conference. If the B12 implodes like it appears it will, KU to the ACC is the only way I can see it positioning itself in a better (or at least equal) spot than it currently sits. Otherwise it will end up in a glorified mid-major with Iowa State, Baylor, KState, TCU, Memphis, UAB, Houston, etc. a few years down the road.

If the supposed 64 team, 4 conference format rumored to be the end goal by conspiracy theorists ends up happening, they will break away from the NCAA, which means they pocket most of the hundreds of millions of dollars generated from the NCAA tournament. Then basketball becomes just as important. The NCAA has very little financial control over football. It does in basketball however and the conspiracy theorist will tell you that it's a major reason why we might see a major shift in conference alignment.
