Doogie clearly talks to Ben and the staff. They are the most likely source. Sure maybe it was a player, but that's doubtful. I don't think "off the record, Ihnen's recovery is going great, Fox not so much" is some sort of HIPAA violation or scandal.
Either way, the idea that Doogie just made it up for the 3 people that listen to his podcast that actually care about Gopher basketball is ridiculous.
