I see both Bozek and Schleper got credit for assists in game 1 and both had those intentional misses that banked off the boards and got picked up for scores, so are those what counted as assists for those two? I didn't get to see the first game.

Those are assists, just like if they would have shot on goal and a player scored on a rebound or tip.
