Official "Viva Las Vegas!!" Thread - Trip Plans, Ticket Qs, Tailgating, Casino Advice

You are also doing it wrong if you don't stay at the Monte Carlo, just so you know.

I've quickly looked through most pages of this thread and have seen nothing re: strip clubs. I didn't even know it was possible to have an eight page thread about a trip to Vegas without discussing a single strip club. Anyone have any recommendations or hidden gems to share?

I live in Vegas, but haven't been to a strip club. A few have been in the news however. Be careful with your credit cards in these places (like you didn't already know that). There have been stories about people's cards getting run up and when the card owners disputed the charges bouncers showed up and were intimidating/violent. A few years ago some guy from Nebraska complained about charges at a place called the Crazy Horse II and got his neck broken. It is now closed because of lawsuits from that case. I always laugh when I hear about the Olympic Gardens http://www.ogvegas.com/ or as its known, "The OG." The city offered grants to businesses to improve their buildings, etc., the OG applied, and WON grant funding. Some people were pissed, but I thought that it was hilarious. Anyway, have fun - the is no shortage of strip clubs in Vegas.

UNLV SID tweets that the Gopher/ UNLV game will be on CBS Sports Network, but does not give a time as of yet.

In past years these kind of games usually kicked off like 8-9ish CST.....

Bill's is a dump. Very few if any of there dealers have a personality. Some of them boarder on incompetent. If your playing there, make sure your getting paid off when you actually do win. If you like Holde'em, Flamingo poker room is the place to be. 8AM to 2PM daily they play cracked aces. If you get pocket aces and lose, the casino gives you $100. Just got back from there and spent a average of around 4 hours a day playing holdem. Good time.

Phil Miller says the Gophers/UNLV game will be at 8pm local time, 10pm CT!

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/150082825.html

"UNLV has set the start time for the Gophers' season opener Aug. 30 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas for 8 p.m. PT, or 10 p.m. in the Twin Cities. That's probably fortunate for the players, considering daytime temperatures in Las Vegas are routinely above 100 degrees in August.
The UNLV game will be televised by CBS College Sports, the first game in the Mountain West Conference's new partnership with the network following the demise of its own network, the Mtn."

Go Gophers!!

Booked my flights today after weaseling out of work for a day. Arriving Thursday at 8:45 am, departing Friday at 1:00 am, will be at work by 9:00 Friday morning. Going to be a whirlwind trip, but it will be fun to make a 16-hour stop in Vegas for some gambling and football and absolutely no luggage.

If it's a 8:00 kickoff, it had better not go to overtime, I'll have a plane to catch. Actually, no matter what time kickoff is, it had better not go to overtime. This is UNLV.

Jike, it's confirmed for the 8pm start time. I hope for your sake we finish them off in regulation!

Go Gophers!!

" Not sure if football has a specific tag, I think that "Fumblin' Rebs" might work.

I have been living here in Las Vegas for the last 20+ years. I believe they are called the "Who Cares Rebels".

Just booked tickets for my wife and I using miles - the prices on Delta have really gone up the last two weeks.

Mr. & Mrs. Rescooter will be at the newly remodeled Golden Nugget. Flying out on Delta. Mrs. Rescooter hit a home run with the booking-a very sweet deal. Leaving Sunday staying through Saturday. We'll be hiking in the mountains for 3 of those days.

Cutting it close. I'll be rooting for a repeat of the season opener against Middle Tennessee two years ago, where we grinded out almost 300 rushing yards, kept the clock moving, and played the game in three hours.

Ha,
Good luck with those "Mountains". I have been bow hunting those "Mountains" for 20 years. 118 degrees, bring plenty of h2o, snakes everywhere. I need to sell "mountain" hikes. :) The closest mountains are 200 miles north.

My wife and I are booked, land Tuesday afternoon through Friday night (11:30 pm late night flight). She asked me about game tickets...i told her i'm more concerned on the tailgating situation. Looks like UNLV runs a loop bus on game day from the top of the strip to the stadium for seven dollars round trip (plus the 5 i will need for the Deuce).

Booked my trip today! Four of us will be attending and living it up for the weekend.

Booked, leaving early Thursday, returning Saturday, staying at the Mirage.. PUMPED!

I spoke to a guy from UNLV's athletic dept the other day and he said that in a meeting someone had said that they didn't expect Minnesota to bring many fans to the game. He said that he interjected that based on his conversations with me there will be a nice Gopher contingent (from here it sounds like there will be - the more the merrier!). Later in the same conversation he said that Iowa State had brought a nice crowd here a couple of years ago. I said, "Iowa State??! We'll do a lot better than them!" I can't imagine us bringing fewer fans than Iowa State. Man, is our team's and fan's reputations that bad nationally??

Finally booked the hotel- flight and tickets were purchased a while back. Staying at Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling hall, less than 3 miles from the stadium- only $30 for Thursday night (we are flying into Vegas at 11 AM Thursday and driving to San Diego Friday, so we're only staying 1 night)!

Anyone have any idea on the tailgating situation? Kegs allowed, what time the lots open? Trying to a plan together for the day.

Hey pregame: we are on the same flight. Mich Golden in the suitcase this year? Looking forward to tailgating with the San Deigo crew again. Bring your dancing shoes!!

The Thursday first flight out will be well represented with maroon and gold. I know quite a few people on that flight.

Go Gophers!!

Good question. I got myself this book bag that doubles as a cooler at Five Below, figure worse case scenario I leave it behind at the Sam Boyd gates...but my plan is to fill that up with ice before heading out and feeling it up with some Molsons before finding a group of Gopher fans who will take me in and let me drink with them in the lot, lol.

Nice! Don't know if I'll have to bring some this time- there's already some in San Diego that'll make the trip to Vegas, but one can never have enough.

Tickets booked for Thursday morning flight and staying at TI. What kind of action are people planning on putting on the Gophers and when do the odds come out?

Gophers should be a small favorite - right??

I think they'd have to be around a 1-2 point favorite.

I'll plan on throwing $50 down. If UNVL comes out favored then maybe a little more on the Gophers to win. Maybe parlay it with a Lynx game...

Unless there have been changes to Nevada Law, I was under the impression the Casinos did not take bets on sporting events that happen in Nevada.

I think this has changed but I could be wrong.

I really hope that betting rule is not the case. I think the Gophers will be slight favorites. Thinking about $50 with the spread and $50 to win... if they'll allow it.

99.9% sure about 10-12 years ago the law changed and now UNLV is up on the boards.
