Official "Viva Las Vegas!!" Thread - Trip Plans, Ticket Qs, Tailgating, Casino Advice

I really hope they sort this out soon as I would like to set my travel plans up soon!

I've got rooms blocked at the Cosmopolitan from Thursday until Sunday. It is true that the prices go up as you get closer to that weekend, and airfares are not cheap.

Personally, I'd prefer a Saturday game to have a couple days there of buildup, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

Better tv exposure for the U on Thursday with only 5 games scheduled. Hotel rooms for labor day weekend are 3 nite minimum and pricey. Fly in Thursday and fly home Friday or make it a 5 day weekend.

Not if it's on NBC Sports Network.

A person in the UNLV athletics dept told me that there should be an announcement "shortly after March 1." Take that for what its worth.

I like playing the first game of the year on Thursday. Although there is no advantage for MN or UNLV, it does give us 2 extra days to prepare for our 2nd opponent. Either way, I hope a decision is made soon so we can start planning.

Lame. How hard is it to make these decisions when they schedule the game? Or at least don't give us a date if they're just going to change it even though as far as I can tell nothing else about the situation has changed. Did the just realize that fewer teams play on Thursday than on Saturday?

Count me among the pissed off if this change happens. I don't have the kind of vacation time necessary to pull that trip off without taking a noticeable financial hit.

Shoot, we're probably lucky to be getting the advance notice we are...

These things happen often. It was a possibility from day one.

Last night I ate at the UNLV Dining Center, there were several football player there. I was wearing Gopher gear and this guy http://www.unlvrebels.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/020112aaa.html#holloway (Holloway) approaches me and asks if I coach for the Gophers. Nope, but I'm a fan. He then tells me that he's good friends with Martez Shabazz. They grew up together in DeSoto, TX and I think played JUCO together. He is excited to play against Shabazz. I told him that I'm a big UNLV fan, but hope that they lose their opener next fall. Go Gophers!

This has turned into a Whine Festival. The game is in 6 months, work it out.

Not only that, but tickets always say dates and times of games are subject to change.

The answer is stay flexible.

I'm almost embarassed to say "Dr. Don is once again the voice of reason". Thanks, Don!

I just booked my flight on Delta. Get in on the 30th at 11AM, so if the game is Thursday night I will have plenty of time to go out and tailgate before the game. The only Sun Country flight that leaves that day does not get in until around 5PM. Delta just lowered their prices yesterday to compete with the Sun Country price.

Damn. Def can't go now. Oh well, it's better for the team. And better for my golf budget for the summer.

We were going to go either way. If it was a Sat game I wasn't going to bring the sticks, but now with a Thursday game it looks like a Wed to Sunday gig and some golf

I'm happy for the football program: more exposure, get to start practice earlier (apparently), and get more prep for the following week. I'm not happy for me though, because now I can't go...grr

For those of you with the time, Orbitz is offering flights on Delta and seven nights (Sat to Sat) from $500-$600 per person.

Well, this just means I will have to use and extra day of PTO or two. Dang! But, should be awesome either way!

I'm somehow going to make this trip work, money will be tight but it's so worth it!

Another August trip to Vegas. Those 100+ degree days suck but it's a night game. Just camp closer to Circus Circus for more of those $1 Heinekens.

In a city where booze if basically free and I can buy a tall boy and walk up and down the strip with it, I'm sure not going to set foot in Circus Dumpus for a $1 beer. That casino reminds me of the casino with "Rock, Paper, Scissors" and "Guess which hand" that Cousin Eddie took Clark to in Vegas Vacation. Only Circus Circus isn't as nice.

Easy to say, for some it isn't an option to "work it out." I am a high school football coach and aligned our first game to be on the Thursday night so I could fly out to Vegas and watch the game. Now that the game is Thursday there is no possible way.

I am not complaining. I understand for 98% of the people (including the Gopher football program) the Thursday game is a better option. While it sucks for me, it gives the Gophers 2 extra days to prepare for their week 2 opponent, a possible National TV game, and probably a couple of other perks.
