NFL Mock Draft Projections: Daniel Faalele

I still think his tape against Ohio State and eventually combine/pro day get him into Rd 1
Did he grade really well against Ohio state or what about his tape did you like? Only watched the game in person so can’t comment

There were some plays being shared on Twitter where he dominated their linemen, all of whom project as picks in rounds 1-4.

His BGSU tape will be less exciting to scouts.

I’ll have to look for some of that film.

BGSU could be a reason for concern but that may not all be on him.

yeah, they got schematically fooled by BGSU and Sanford didn't really adjust protections in-game, or if he did it didn't work.

Faalele looked bad against the speed rush and he'll have to work on that. Him being Aussie and not playing much HS ball is no longer an excuse - he's had 4 years in a Big Ten program. But lots of guys have a weakness and turn out fine when they are getting paid to work on it 365 days a year.

His physical traits are going to elevate him above his current level but he has a lot of room for
Improvement and is a willing blocker. He should be a first or second round pick which is greet for him and the program.

Yep, both Faalele and Mafe will be drafted in the early rounds in large part on what the NFL teams believe they can become, not what they currently are. Both possess attributes that NFL teams crave and are willing to pay a high price for, even if the player isn't quite a finished product yet.

We hope that they get drafted earlier. Rounds 2 and 3 are good landing spots for them. Projections at this moment are all over the place. We will see what happens after the combine.

A mountain with giant claws.

Baltimore Ravens guys think highly enough of Daniel Fa'alele to spend 1-1/2 hours talking about him.

If he goes to the Ravens, we can cheer for him and Rashod Bateman!

If the Ravens are excited about him, will they pull the trigger early to guarantee they get him? Maybe early Second Round?

My point was, which you already know, that Dan has had many, many more good/great games than bad ones. He is high profile so they will be looking at a lot of tape to evaluate him.
No doubt. But the negative film still matters.

Tampa drafted two Gophers and won the super bowl. Baltimore sees the keys to success?

We need 3 in the Krewe. If he's wearing purple it may as well be the Vikings.

I’m surprised he didn’t put up more than 24 reps in the bench press….although probably not his thing with how long his arms are…..

The athletic testing gets all the attention at the NFL Scouting Combine. How fast does everybody run? How many reps of the bench press can they perform? How high and/or far can they jump? What's their three-cone time? Everybody wants to know.

Of course, we all know that the interviews and the body measurements can be just as important. Teams have specific benchmarks they want players to hit at certain positions.

On Friday, the offensive tackles got their body measurements done. And something extremely interesting happened. Minnesota's Daniel Faalele measured 6-foot-8 and weighed in at 384 pounds. According to ESPN.com, that makes him the heaviest player at the combine since 1999, when former Wisconsin tackle Aaron Gibson weighed in at 386 pounds.

Faalele said on Thursday that he actually weighed 426 pounds when he first arrived at Minnesota back in 2018. He also said he'd like to get down to 375 by the time he gets to an NFL training camp. The former rugby and basketball player noted that Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata, who is of similar size and weight (6-foot-8 and 365 pounds) and background (he also played rugby) to Faalele, has had success in the NFL, and that makes him feel like he can do so as well. He met Mailata last month, and the pair hit it off.

"It was cool. It's like I've known him forever," Faalele said. "He gave me his number, just a great friend and mentor."

Faalele started 31 games at right tackle for Minnesota, and is considered a possible Day 2 selection. He's the No. 38 player in the CBS Sports prospect rankings, though he checks in a bit lower at places like The Athletic (No. 52), ESPN (No. 53) and Pro Football Focus (No. 83). Still, he's pegged by most as a second- or third-round pick. Mailata was taken in the seventh round a few years back, helping pave the way for Faalele to potentially go even higher.

Awesome to see these projections with 2 Gophers coming off the board in round 1. May or may not happen but clearly they both had strong showings at the combine and in their all-star games to really open some eyes.

Yup. Perceptions have changed about Mafe and Faalele after the NFL Combine.

They still have Pro Day coming which they probably will be the main draw for pro scouts. I hope that Andries and Otomewo will ride the coattails of these two and get noticed.

Mafe and Faalele are most likely gone before the end of the 2nd Round. It is conceivable that both of them are going in the 1st Round.

CBSSports newest mock draft has Mafe 1st round to Raiders and Daniel 1st round to Bengals.
Would be a lot of fun to watch Dan on the Bengals. Poor Joey needs some help out there.
