I think Castillo and watts are the most likely

Are the dead guys all Plan Bs?

P.J. Hall CB 5"11, 180 3 star Tulane commit is visiting 1/29.

JaQua Daniels Highlight Tape Kid has some nice speed for being 220. Daniels top offers are Georgia and Tennessee, but only visits are Marshall and Middle Tennessee State.

Arkeem Byrd Highlight Tape Offers Georgia Tech, Missouri, Tennessee, Louisville.

Which running back is better? One of these backs paired with Kobe McCary would be a great RB class once again!

Daniels is more impressive to me (but I'm not going to pretend to be an expert).

The RB situation is going to be interesting going forward. I am a little surprised that we are going after a JuCo RB. McCrary is REALLY impressive, so I am happy about it. We have to think that a lot of our carries are going to be going to Smith and Brooks, so maybe McCrary is just additional depth.

I am rambling, but I will be interested to see what happens positionally with Femi-Cole and Johannsen.

What is the status of Emmanuel Jada from Rochester John Marshall? I saw him play against Mankato West and he was a beast all over the field. Best MN kid I have seen play live in years. I looked at his recruiting profile and it states he is 6-3 270 and runs a 4.8

I don't know anything about the kid or his family, I was there to watch Mankato West.

Anyone know if the Gophers showed him interest?

Daniels has some academic issues so it's doubtful he gets here on an OV.

McCrary will be a Gopher for 3 reasons:

1. He's a big back and we don't currently have one on the roster.
2. Balances the RB classes. We currently don't have an upperclassman at RB.
3. Provides immediate depth next season and will have a chance to play a lot if either Brooks or Smith gets injured. JJ and JFC aren't ready yet for B1G football.

Oops! I mean post dead period recruits. Let's hope they are all not zombies.

Yeah - those zombies are slow and have poor reflexes - but when they gang-tackle you, it's all over. (unless you hide under another body like Glenn.......)

If they don't get Watts this team again has failed.to ramp up the DL.

Why even play? Knowing your extensive knowledge of all DL seniors in High School, I'm ready to shut er' down if you are not happy with our recruits. I mean Claeys likes them, but that means nothing to me.

Sounds like not only do we need to get him, but we need him to play right away. Our whole dline is hinging on this 3 star recruit.

What was Steve Richardson's injury that sidelined him for some games?

Just went and looked at updated Gopher FB roster. The way it looks, they have 4 "true" DT's on the roster - Shooby Timms, Scott Ekpe, Richardson and Gary Moore. Then, a few guys that could be swing men between DE and DT, like Stelter and Mose Hall. That's not a lot of depth at a key position - so yes, I would like to see better depth at DT.

But - it needs to be quality depth. Just throwing a body in there doesn't do it.

Question - do the Gophs have any OL on the roster or committed who could potentially move to DL?
Maybe someone who's down on the depth chart and would be willing to switch for more playing time?

I would love to see a big, nasty 320-lb dude in the middle of the DLine - but so would every D1 coach in the country.

Merrick Jackson

I have said this before, and here it is again. The toughest position to recruit is Defensive Tackle. Why? The big dude in high school who is ripping it up may have peaked. Every team recruits one maybe two every year, and some go so far as a specialist a nose tackle in a 3-4. That dude need to anchor the line of scrimmage, take on double teams and maintain or defeat them. The Flag Ship schools, always have "stout" defensive lines. The 6'3 or 4 player who is anywhere from 290 to 325. Everybody can look at a player and say he must be a DT.
And then Steven Richardson comes along. Who saw that? What did they see? How could he hold up?

The roster, the recruiting is in the hands of those who know. Whose job it is to evaluate players. When it comes down to the difference between the 4 star DT and 3 Star is minimal. It could be a small difference strength, leverage, height or weight.

Recruiting classes should never be rated on how many stars, rather on the number of players who contribute over the five years of the 25 offers you make. At Minnesota you cannot just throw a scholarship at someone and hope.

I have read this from you before and I agreed back then. First example that comes to mind for me is Nebraska. They had two legit DT's this year and they stopped the Gophers run game cold. It's hard to find people that are 6'3" 290+ lbs and can move well enough to play DT. We have some quality starters but the key is depth. The first string guys will always need a breather late in the game and if the 2nd team guys are very good then they can hold other teams and stop the big plays late in games when the defense is tired. This is about depth as well as size and talent. Takes some time to build that up, the quality teams have it but it did not happen overnight.

Or as another example consider the Michigan game when they stopped Leidner on the goal line at the end. They just out manned us inside with those big bruising DT's. Everyone in the place knew it was going to be a QB sneak and Harbaugh was not fooled. We just did not have the studs to move those big guys out of there. We would have experienced a different outcome if we would have called a deceptive play action type play but the coaches did not call that.

Admitting to not being an expert may get you banned from the site.

I actually think we'll be okay at DT this next year. Between Richardson, S. Ekpe, Merrick Jackson, Stelter, and Timms, that's some of the better depth we've had. We may not have a difference maker other than Richardson, but it's respectable. My concern is more for 2 years from now since we only recruited Hall last year and currently have 0 commits for this class.

Where we should all be terrified for the upcoming year is defensive end. We got no pressure on QBs last year and couldn't contain the edge, and now our best 2 defensive ends have graduated. So we're going into this year with Elmore and Ekpe pegged as starters and who as the back-ups? Probably Kafo and DeLatti-something or other. Not very encouraging to say the least. Which is why the single biggest recruiting miss was Webber. Hopefully Tramal Ivy qualifies and we can get him here this summer.

In the last 50 years of college football, how many o-lineman have moved to d-line? The answer is close to zero as it's a completely different skill set.

If they want a big Galoot at DT, why doesn't the Gophers extend an offer to Joe Market of Saint Thomas Academy?

He is 6' 7" 315 lbs. and just received an Illnois offer on January 12? He is not ranked, but I think he may be worth a risk. Coach Klein can put him in a strength and conditioning program. What do you think?

Does anyone here know about this kid? If he does to Illinois and blossoms, we will be facing him potentially four times.

Because if we want to compete and eventually win the West, we need better players.

Kafo has legit speed, reports on deLattiboudere are positive
Gibson moved to DE, Coughlin can play some of that passing play rush DE that Huff played
