Gopher women’s basketball team hoping to return for workouts soon (AUDIO)
MAY 25, 2020 BY MINNESOTA NEWS NETWORK

(Minneapolis, MN) — University of Minnesota women’s basketball player Sara Scalia of Stillwater is trying to improve her game this off-season the best she can. The Golden Gopher guard just completed the spring semester and is looking ahead to her sophomore season this coming fall. Scalia says since gyms are still closed, she has been shooting baskets at a park near her home and also on a hoop in her backyard. She says family members are helping her get those shots up. Scalia was twice named Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season, was named to the all-Big Ten all-freshman team, and the all-Big Ten Honorable Mention team. She averaged nearly 11-points per game in her first season. The Gophers also return all-Big Ten all-freshman guard Jasmine Powell, so Scalia says she is extremely excited for the future. Minnesota was 16-15 on the year and awaiting a possible invite to the W-N-I-T when the college basketball season was called off due to COVID-19 in mid-March. Scalia says she is hoping the players are allowed back to campus soon so they can begin working out again in the practice facility and begin preparing for the 2020-21 season.

Love these stories where the players are finding old school ways to get their practicing done. We will need her shooting skills this upcoming season.
