Wolverines’ Copp, Gophers’ Warning and Rau earn weekly honors
Michigan forward Andrew Copp and Minnesota forwards Sam Warning and Kyle Rau have been named the Big Ten’s Three Stars for the week ending Oct. 13. Each week throughout the 2013-14 season, the Big Ten will name a first star, second star and third star to honor top individual performers from across the conference.
First Star
Andrew Copp, Michigan
F – So. – Ann Arbor, Mich.
· No. 11/10 Michigan's leading scorer in wins over No. 4/4 Boston College (3-1) and RIT (7-4)
· Led all Big Ten players with five points (two goals, three assists)
· Recorded a new career high with three points (one goal, two assists) against Boston College
· Tallied game-winning goal in victory over Boston College
· Added a goal and an assist against RIT
· Earned first career Big Ten weekly award
Second Star
Sam Warning, Minnesota
F – Jr. – Chesterfield, Mo.
· Guided No. 5/5 Minnesota to the Ice Breaker Tournament title with wins over Mercyhurst (6-0) and No. 13/12 New Hampshire (3-2)
· Named MVP of the 2013 Ice Breaker Tournament and an all-tournament team member
· Recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in team’s win over Mercyhurst
· Added a goal against New Hampshire in the championship game which tied the score at 2-2
· Earned first career Big Ten weekly award
Third Star
Kyle Rau, Minnesota
F – Jr. – Eden Prairie, Minn.
· Helped lead No. 5/5 Minnesota to the Ice Breaker Tournament championship with victories over Mercyhurst (6-0) and No. 13/12 New Hampshire (3-2)
· Earned a spot on the Ice Breaker All-Tournament Team
· Tallied one goal and two assists against Mercyhurst, including the game-winning goal
· Rau’s three-point night against the Lakers marked his 25th career multi-point game
· Notched an assist in championship game against New Hampshire
· Earned first career Big Ten weekly award
