Kevin Whaley lands at Tenn-Martin, called the "jewel" in UTM's incoming class

Possibly the jewel in the UTM incoming class is Minnesota transfer Kevin Whaley, who was the Golden Gophers' second-leading rusher with 367 yards as a redshirt freshman.

Whaley left the team after being indefinitely suspended for an assault charge following a nightclub incident after Minnesota's loss to Iowa State in the Insight Bowl.

"I've spent a ton of time with him, and I think the change of scenery will be good for him," Simpson said. "He, McNair and Barksdale are smaller backs than we have had in the past, but they are also faster."

Good for him. He did look good with the ball, shifty.

Who's going to be the first troll to come on and say "Brewster lost a guy to Tenn-Martin!" :p

Whaley was a big dissappointment, but still better then Bennett and Eskridge. Even with Whaley we were in serious trouble at RB this year. We need a freshmen to step up big time.

Thats funny cause last night I was looking over our 2008 class and was wondering if Whaley had enrolled anywhere. He was a 4 star back and after he got shot he dropped to 3, his offer list was quite impressive for a kid that cant break an arm tackle. Wish him the best.

If we have a serious running threat from the QB, that will open up things for the running backs, particularly if some option is thrown in. Just enough to keep the defense on their toes.

As long as there's no Omar or Marlo the team should be fine...God I love that show

Hahahaha, but you see it's not a Baltimore Barksdale, this guy is from Tenn. Avon and the Baltimore faction are way more into hoopin' anyway. However, if anyone can bring out the seedy, underside of this Tenn. Barksdale it's Whaley.

Seriously though I wish Whaley the best, hopefully he figures it out.

A two bit thug is the jewel of their class? Really? LOL.

Isn't that why his mom wanted him to go to MN in the first place, to get out of Virginia and start over?

That is until he assults the coach and rapes a cheerleader...

A change of scenery could be just the shot in the leg that he needs.

I would imagine his Mom thought his childhood circle of friends may have included a few bad eggs that were creating problems for him.

The problem is that the U is in the 9th largest area with major college football. Throw out private school campuses and it's #6. There is a lot of trouble to be had here and there is a media with people on the lookout for it 24/7.

KW isn't the first young man in the history of the world to like to drink a little too much and have anger issues because of it. But he is one of only a small % that have had the misfortune of the police reports to be reported and reprinted all over the place in a Top 20 media market.

I enjoyed watching him play while he was here, and I hope for the best for him in TN.
