I apologize for the late notice, but I have Randy Peterson from the Des Moines Register (Cyclones beat reporter) lined up for a Q & A ... need to get him the questions by tonight or tomorrow ... anything in particular you want me to ask him?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Questions

ISU have aspirations to be in B10? Happy in B12?.

What geographic areas do they concentrate their recruiting on?

Now that ISU has made a Bowl Game has the uproar over Chizik leaving quieted down?

A couple of years back, IS got a big time runningback transfer from either Florida or Florida State who was suppose to surplant Minneapolis native and Delasalle graduate Alexander Robinson, what ever happened to the transfer? What are IS fans opinion of Robinson?

Is there any interest from IS to play non con games? (even though we have our non con schedule set for like the next 5 years)

1. People in Ames love Rhoads.

2. Fans LOVE A-Rob

What's their defensive philosophy? Do they intend to concede what little the Gophers can get via the run and make the passing game beat them? How are their kick coverage teams? Do Stoudemire/Allen have a chance to make a little noise in the return game?

What is the buzz like down there about the game? Is is a major local event or is it s big shoulder shrug like it is in the Twin Cities. I'd like to get a feel for the contrast.

1) the transfer from Florida (Bo Williams) has played sparingly this year. He's looked alright when he came in, but it was basically in garbage time.

2) A big reason he's played sparingly, is because Robinson has been so good. Despite a pulled groin most of the season, he was leading the Big 12 in rushing yards w/2 weeks left in the season.

3) Rhoads is a god in Central Iowa right now. This is essentially the same team Chizik had a year ago, and they went from 2-10 to 6-6 (possibly 7-6), while losing our two best offensive players in the middle of the season. In the Nebraska game we had a freshman QB and RB making their first career starts. The turn around is all coaching.

4) The players you need to look out for are in order (offensively): 1) Robinson. Probably the best RB in the Big 12 when healthy. 2) Arnaud. A mobile quarterback who runs like a fullback, and relishes contact. Our best short yardage runner. Has had some inconsistent streaks of play learning his 3rd offense in 4 years. If he's on, he can do alot of damage. His biggest problem is his touch on the ball, as he throws a few into the ground. That, and he has no legitimate receiving threats.
Defensively: 1) Jesse Smith. Not incredibly athletic, but he plays very smart football. Always in the right place. 2) David Sims. Ball hawking safety who likes contact, and has forced a few turnovers this season. Also a competent kick returner.

5) ISU fans are JACKED about the game. The only reason we don't have more is people's ability to afford a long trip during the holiday season like that. There will be close to 20,000 ISU fans (many aren't buying tickets through the University) at the game. Many of us have wanted to play Minnesota in a yearly rivalry series, and are excited to play a Big 10 school not named "Iowa".

Brewster messed up Big Time when Robinson came to the U a couple years ago looking to transfer.

Kent Youngblood has been bitten buy the anti-Gopher bug. He's writing an article about a hometown kid doing well at ISU, but has the need to throw in a cheap shot at the Gophers:

"[Robinson had] ... Another new coach, another new offense, another offensive coordinator, another start.

Of course, if you're a Gophers fan, this shouldn't sound too unfamiliar, at least the new coaches/coordinators/offense".

It's another example that proves the TC sports media is among the worst in the country.

It is a cheap shot because it has no place in that article about a running back from another school. If there had been an attempt at a real comparison, then it would have been a different article.

No cheap shot, just a fact. He is pointing out that Gopher fans can empathize with what that kid was going through. He was pointing out how unsettling it is to constantly change leadership/philosophies and that it does not give you a feeling of stability. That is why A Rob was looking around and Gopher fans/players can relate.

Agree 100%. It's completely relevant to the situation.

That article left out alot of truth. Robinson and some family members came to the U fully intending to transfer here and we're told by Minnesota coaches that we we're not interested in a transfer and wanted to recruit our own RB's(Eskridge, Shady, and Whaley). We gave him the option of walking on but said he would most likley never get a scholarship because we planned on signing several huge classes, which we did. The Robinson's left and briefly considered a couple 1-AA's like UNI but decided in the end that returning to ISU was the best option. That article made it sound like he was only contimplating transfering, reality is he had packed his bags and come home and wanted to play at MN. In hindsight it backfired on MN and was a good choice for Alexander.

Johnny is correct.
In fact, an 'old-timer' at Bierman refers to the Robinson family showing up as getting 'Zak Kustok'ed' when they left empty-handed.
Go figure-
