Iowa expected to hire Tim Lester at OC

Trying to get some of that WMU magic at Iowa.

Interesting to hire a guy who hasn’t called many plays

He can’t be worse than Brian

He could be the same but with more turnovers

HC in waiting? Without the title of course (you can’t do that in the ncaa without restrictions).

The guy who replaced P.J.. didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Then got fired. Getting fired in the MAC must means a real disaster. Good

There is more to the story here...don't know what it is. First year, PJ takes the entire recruiting class to Minnesota. WM still goes 6 and 6. Absent covid year he leads them to three straight bowl games. Then he goes 5 and 7 and gets fired. Seems odd.
The he goes to the Green Bay Packers. Then he becomes the OC at Iowa.
That is not a guy failing on a normal career path trajectory. He has to have something special that people see minus the getting fired part.

Lester had good or very good offenses at WMU, except for 2022--when he got fired! That offense stunk. His year in the NFL as an analyst couldn't hurt. One commentator (not random fan) opined, based on film, that Lester likes to run a TE-oriented RPO. Quick rhythm passes exploiting LBs and CBs who bite on the run. Kind of sounds like an OC who, at least theoretically, can make better use of the constant stream of NFL-in-waiting TEs who cycle through Iowa. I'm betting Iowa's offense is quite a bit better next year than in the past few BF years (it can't possibly be worse). Let's hope the the Iowa defense isn't as good.

Ferentz will have Lester learning his system and not much will change there. But if Lester has some imagination and a feel for the game, he could be better than Brian.

I hope this hire makes the mike Sanford hire look genius.

Question: if an Iowa Hawkeye couple get divorced are they still brother & sister?

His brother made $200 mil in the league. Has tons of rich friends. Could be a big NIL boost for the Hawkeyes.

From elevenwarriors :
Lester was the head coach at Western Michigan from 2017-22. From 2018-21, Western Michigan’s offense ranked in the top 35 nationally in total offense each year, including three straight years in the top 25 with the nation’s No. 16 total offense in 2020 and No. 12 total offense in 2021. He was fired after the 2022 season, in which Western Michigan finished 125th out of 131 FBS teams in total offense.
From the internet: ...all his top players transferred to bigger schools in 2022.
And Western Michigan got a new athletic director in 2022 who wanted to hire his guy to be the head coach.

Am I the only one who thinks it is odd the the punt coordinator wants to work with QB Cade McNamara "to create even more punt opportunities"? Sounds like the punt coordinator misses BF.

Lurking on some Iowa fan sites, they do not appear to like this hire. A lot of them think he’ll just be a yes man for Kirk and won’t make any major changes to their offense

The sad part about this is for the briefest moment the idea that Iowa had a punt coordinator really didn't strike me as odd.... :)

Their fans seem less than enthused about this hire. Unfortunately it seems highly unlikely he could be worse then Brian Ferentz so chances are their offense may get a little better and that is a scary proposition since their D is likely to stay solid as long as Parker is in charge.

Agree that he can only improve the offense. The guy had a winning record at Western following P,J who gutted the class coming in.
