In our ongoing "Get to Know Your Future Gopher" Q&A series, GopherHole.com spoke with Ra'Shede Hageman, an impressive TE from Washburn who chose the Gophers over national powers such as Florida, Nebraska, Ohio State and Oklahoma. Please see the link below for a Q&A with Hageman:

Another Good Interview!

Kudos to the GopherHole Staff for another insightful interview!

Ra'Shede Hageman showed maturity in his responses that other potential recruits might well pick up and consider:

GopherHole: What are the three main reasons you chose to be a Gopher?
Hageman: "It's my hometown school; 2) It's a program on the rise with good coaches; and 3) Going to the U of M gives me better job prospects in the future."

The third reason shows his long term perspective, which I believe is especially important given the current economic downturn. Networking is important now and will be in the future. The Twin Cities will continue to be a destination for employment for a variety of reasons (despite some current sobering trends), but competition for quality employment will also be strong. It's always good to have name recognition that sports provide and a track record at the the state university - networking components.

The second mature answer:

GopherHole: Who do you hate more, the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Wisconsin Badgers?
Hageman: "Neither one. They both recruited me and I liked the coaches."

Recruiting is about building relationships, and so is life. His response is right on. Why would you hate another school and its coaches if they gave you respect and acknowledged your talents and wanted you to play for them? His response sounded more than reasonable to me. I would hope recruits that don't choose Minnesota would have the same attitude and response if they were asked similar questions about the Gophers and its coaching staff.

Go Gophers!!

All I can say is that I would definitely not have answered that way....

I see no problem with that answer. However I'm guessing that will change after the first time they play them!

Maybe the question should be revised to..."Who would you enjoy beating more....??"

I surely don't "hate" either team. They are sure fun to beat though!!!

Well it's official. He won't be playing hard against Becky and the Hawkeyes because he likes them to much. Might as well bench him when we play them. JK PEOPLE CALM DOWN.

Although I hate wisconsin he is right on with that answer.

His most telling answer?

GH: Football is a great sport because……?

Hageman: You can hit people and not get in trouble.

You got to love it.

I just love Ra'Shede!

and his answers cracked me up, he's got a good sense of humor...and you can tell, the boy likes to eat!

I don't know why, if it's because he's the hometown boy, or has such a great story and preservered through so much...but I am just rooting for him more than the average player. I'm really excited for him, I think we'll see great things from him!
