Arrive early to see Minnesota raise the 2013 national championship banner

The Gopher women's hockey team will take one final look at the 2012-13 season when they raise the 2013 NCAA National Championship banner before Friday's game. No. 1 Minnesota hosts No. 4/6 Wisconsin in its home-opening series at Ridder Arena this weekend.

Puck drop against the Badgers is set for 6:07 p.m. Friday and 4:07 p.m. Saturday. Fans should arrive to Ridder Arena by 5:45 p.m. Friday to be in their seats for the raising of the banner.

In addition to revealing and raising the championship banner, the Gophers are pleased to host two promotions for Friday's game.

Friday is Student Day. The first 200 students at Ridder Arena will receive a free shirt. Students also receive free admission with their U-Card. The student section is located in Section 9 next to the band. There will also be several on-ice and in-game promotions featuring students. Email Gopher Sports Marketing at [email protected] if you'd like to participate.

Friday's game also highlights student-athletes with Maroon Madness. This is a special invitation to student-athletes to support Gopher women's hockey. Pizza will be available.

The Gophers extended their NCAA-record winning streak to 51 games with two victories over Colgate University in their season-opener on the road last weekend. Minnesota skated to 3-1 and 8-3 wins over the Raiders led by junior Rachael Bona's (Coon Rapids, Minn.) seven points and sophomore Amanda Leveille's (Kingston, Ont.) 45 saves.

Minnesota finished the 2012-13 season with a perfect 41-0-0 record and earned their second NCAA title in two years and the fourth in program history. Gopher women's hockey also was named the Big Ten Women's Team of the Year while head coach Brad Frost was tagged as the Big Ten Women's Coach of the Year.
