Dani Cameranesi led Minnesota with four points against UMD

Freshman forward Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Rookie of the Week after recording four points in Minnesota's series sweep of Minnesota Duluth last weekend.

Cameranesi ranks third in the league and sixth in the nation in rookie scoring with six points in six games. She is on a three-game points streak (3g-3a), during which she averages 2.00 points per game as her six points on the season have all come in the last three games.

Against the Bulldogs, Cameranesi led Minnesota with four points on three goals and one assist. She finished the series with 10 shots, one blocked shot and a +1 rating. Her goals included two power-play goals and one game-winner.

Cameranesi scored her first collegiate goal in Friday’s 4-0 win. She netted Minnesota’s third goal of the game at 10:44 of the third period. Cameranesi had four shots in the game for a .250 scoring percentage and was +1. On the defensive end, she blocked one Bulldog shot as well.

Saturday saw Cameranesi contribute to half of the Gophers’ goals in the 6-3 victory. She scored two power-play goals and recorded one assist. Cameranesi scored the game-winner on the power play at 15:52 of the second period, giving Minnesota a 4-1 lead. She netted her second goal of the game at 4:46 of the third period, just 33 seconds into a Gopher power play and 2:38 after assisting a goal by Kelly Terry. The winger had two goals on six shot attempts.

This week's award is the first WCHA weekly honor for Cameranesi, who was named the WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year in September.

Cameranesi and the top-ranked Gophers travel north to Bemidji State this weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. Friday and 4:07 p.m. Saturday.
