Gopher Softball - 2016

It's hard to believe that the Gophers did not have a POTW all of last B1G season.

Their last one before this week was February 15, 2015.

Allister tweaked the batting order once again for this game, swapping Houlihan and Groenewegen. Can't knock the results. Stober came in and threw a perfect 5th inning.

Can someone explain why we don't have one other pitcher that can go 2 innings without double digit runs against? SG isn't enough to win a regional on her own. We need someone to step up, but I don't think there is anyone on the team who can. That is going to hold us back this year. What happened to recruiting?

There is a softball game at the same time as the Spring football game. It would be nice if it could be scheduled later. Have a softball game at 3, and you might get people coming over from the Spring game.

Way to gut out the second win. First game went so easy (9 run first) and 2nd game was sketchy. Good teams still figure out how to win, as we did. Finish them off tomorrow, ladies!

We sure play the crappy teams this year. I can't believe how bad our Big Ten Schedule is. Better win it this year ladies...

Real bad performance in the first game against Becky. Lose 6-3. Several throwing errors and Sarah was in la-la
land . Becky got 10 hits. First lost at home in 12 B1G games. Second coming up on the BTN.

Becky leading in the second game 5-1 in the top of the 6th
Ladies playing like total cap against a very average Becky team.

Major dump. They had a nice path to the regular season championship.

Allister decides to go with Anderson in the circle to start the second game against Rutgers.
Side note: Man, the Rutgers softball complex is (what's the word?), underwhelming.
Gophers grab a 3-0 lead on a Palkovich bases clearing double in the first inning.
Minnesota gets the win, 8-0 in six innings. Nikki Anderson goes all the way giving up just 4 hits. Macken and Groenewegen hit home runs.
With the understanding that Rutgers isn't a good squad, Anderson sure can turn in some performances that get you thinking how good she can be at times. Really a riddle.

Michigan beat Ohio State today, 5-1. (Thinking that double header loss to Wisconsin is going to loom larger and larger as the season winds down.)
Michigan State over Indiana 6-2.
Nebraska beat Northwestern 8-1.
Iowa beat Wisconsin 5-2.
Purdue beat Illinois 1-0.
Penn State beat Maryland 4-0.

Macken hits a 3 run homer in the second inning to make it 5-0.
Parlich follows Macken with a solo home run to make it 6-0.
