Gopher game slogans like "Wish Again, Michigan"

I was hearing a story the other day about how a friend of mine's grandfather couldn't get to the hospital in time for his child being home because he was stuck in gopher traffic.
Some years later the uncle who was born on gameday couldn't get to the hospital on time for his son because of gopher traffic.
Now this guys son (the guy I knows cousin) is having a baby due in late October while he is in his 50s.

The first baby was born in 1941
The second baby was born in 1960.

I'm not saying. I'm just saying.

Back in 2001-2005 we used to yell "smells like yeast" at opposing cheerleaders.

I think that's like "Wish Again Michigan", right?

In 60 I think the slogan was "Flush Champaign down the drain."

Gopher Homecoming Pins and Slogans

I have most of the homecoming pins back to 1941. Here are a few of them.
Chill-inois, Silence illi-noise, scuttle the Cats, Pursue Purdue, Whipurdue, Skindiana, Blast the boilers, Tomahawk the Hawks, Husk the Huskers, Haunt the Hawks, End-iana, Smothern Cal, Scuttle Pitt, Hoedown Hoosiers, Spillinois, Spook the House that Vanderdilt, Boil-illin-oil, French Fry Illini, give the Bucks a WARMath, Shoo Iaway. There use to be a lot of effort that went into the homecoming pins. With each of these sayings there would be a sketch of some kind.

I have them back to 1914. The UM got in a bunch of "sensitive, caring, 90's type guys" who really neglected the spirit of homecoming which was focused around the game, and started allowing their feminine side to emerge. I guess they no longer felt comfortable with "violent" slogans like "Boil-illin-oil." Contrast that with the peppy 1989 "A Celebration of Pride"

I have a list of all the Homecoming slogans, etc for the pins until I quit picking them up. However, when I try to upload the .doc file my browser opens up a new window with a completely black screen. Maybe I can send it to another member who can post it. I tried altering the security settings in Firefox, but no luck.

Reminiscent of the old Hamm's Bear and the Hamm's Beer song.

"Ann Arbor is a Whore". I remember those T-shirts were being sold like crazy in the tailgating lot before the great Gopher 4th quarter collapse in the Dome.

In 1980 I remember walking down University Avenue and taking in all the nicely decorated front lawns prepared by the fraternities and sororities on homecoming day. Nicely decorated except for one fraternity that had nothing but a crude homecoming sign made out of cardboard that said "Beat the Socialist Wolverines." I don't know why but that's been my favorite homecoming slogan.

2, 4, 6, 8, Iowa chicks are overweight! It will never be a game day slogan, but I enjoy chanting it nonetheless.
