Don’t have the Athletic, but would be curious to what “data” theyre giving them that they don’t already have that will change their betting line strategy in any meaningful way
I had the same thought. I would think the books are way ahead on that type of stuff.Don’t have the Athletic, but would be curious to what “data” theyre giving them that they don’t already have that will change their betting line strategy in any meaningful way

So what a coach’s tendency is going into half or running clock vs scoring more when up big? Again that’s all available if you watch the games. I guess maybe this is smaller books who don’t have the manpower looking to make money on MACtion who play games at weird times so in game betting will be more rampant from degenerates like me (typically pretty easy money on midweek MAC games as it seems those teams don’t get as heavily reviewed/bet on, do you can sharp the lines on them as well as on player props)?I think it is more about in game live betting that they are looking at doing? Official stats for those purposes and not just setting game lines. Will be interesting to see where this goes.
Official league data can flow into gaming operators' systems faster than cheaper unofficial data, and at least a couple of state laws require the use of official data for live or in-game betting. Accuracy and timeliness are key reasons for sportsbooks to pursue official data.
and now, it's time for "You Bet Your Life," starring the one, the only......Groucho!

The truth is that the sports gamblers who do the best tend to bet a lot of obscure games. It's a pretty common strategy to pick a league like MAC or some other midmajor and watch every single game. The theory is that unlike the Big 10 or SEC, there aren't enough bets flowing in to water down whatever advantage you might have from being a MAC football guru.Anybody betting regularly on MAC football is pretty high up the degen chart
Yeah when I was doing basketball more frequently focused a lot on American East, ASun, Big South, and MAAC. Teams are absolute shit to try to watch but first half under with Kennesaw or h2h between Fairfield Marist NJIT Hartford and a few others exotic under were consistentThe truth is that the sports gamblers who do the best tend to bet a lot of obscure games. That and the skeptics would argue, it's easier to buy off mid major athletes.
this. midweek maction is always full of good plays. teams get less pub, views, etc. and so the background gets less looked into and you can get into the teams skill levels better, rather than just looking at the boxes like an average bettor will do. it's also why books will say they have some players who are very in tune to individual teams as well. The truth is that the sports gamblers who do the best tend to bet a lot of obscure games.
