Former Gopher Jim Carter: "The Iowa game is huge...game will be very important"

per Shooter:

The Gophers' 43-24 football victory over San Jose State on Saturday sets the stage for Minnesota's homecoming Saturday afternoon against Iowa on KSTP Ch. 5. Minnesota is 4-0, the Hawkeyes 3-1. Iowa bounced Western Michigan 59-3 at Iowa City on Saturday.

"The Iowa game is huge," said former Gophers fullback and captain Jim Carter, who played on Minnesota's last Big Ten title team in 1967 before spending the next nine seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

"Being 4-0 is great, but as you well know, the teams weren't terrific," Carter said. "However, (coach) Jerry Kill's got them doing a lot of the basics right -- they're not jumping offsides, they're not holding, they're not getting penalties, they're watching their turnovers. Personally, I think they're much improved.

"But I think (the Iowa) game will be very important because it's a turning point. Now we'll see."
