Did 2007 and 2008 with Brew as WR coach before leaving for Browns job.

Coached Eric Decker to some very good seasons. Illini alum.

Will be asst hc/wrs coach in Champaign...joins other former Gopher coaches Bart Miller and Tony Peterson on Illini staff.

Assistant HC and WR coach, that's kinda an interesting combo.

The Detroit Lions just signed a guy from New Orleans that was a TE coach and assistant head coach.

It definitely means more than very little. Being a head coach has a lot of duties that have little to do with coaching a position group or coordinating a game plan.

I think that you are correct that it sometimes has significance. Other times, it is a way to give the appearance of a promotion or justify a salary increase. Rules have changed over the years, but there have been times when an NFL team could block a coach under contract from making a lateral move, but couldn't block a promotion. So you could block your RB coach from taking a position coaching job elsewhere, but not block a promotion to an OC position or a RB coach/assistant head coach position.

correct
sometimes it means something
Often times it doesn’t mean much

Yeah, assistant head coach is typically just a way to get guys more money as assistants. I like McDonald when he was here, hopefully works out well for him.

McDonald played for Illinois, so a bit of a homecoming.

McDonald...... He's the undercover Tennessee bag man. Blimpy is already cheating!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joking.

Who would have thought that Brewster had more class than Jerry kill.

That was always true. Never had a bad interaction with Brewster right up until and after the end. Very nice man. Had the HC ego, not the right experience. Never blamed others for his problems.
