FORT WORTH, Texas -- Former Minnesota coach Jerry Kill has joined TCU's staff as a special assistant to coach Gary Patterson.

The two Kansas natives are longtime friends, and Kill was the best man in Patterson's wedding.

Kill will be in charge of the Horned Frogs offense, but won't be one of the on-field assistant coaches. He was in a similar role at Virginia Tech last season.

since he just started today... i wonder which job he is looking at now ? think he will take the mich state job as waterboy ?

ol' jer' is a ball coach. it's who he is, it's in his blood. he turns boys into men and football is his vehicle. jer' has been on a fascinating path since leaving minnesota, but each step along the way allows him to mentor and impact the boys. being back in forth worth is his latest opportunity.

He is auditioning for Gary Patterson's personal towel assistant.

Probably about time for the writers to drop "former Minnesota coach" in their pieces. He's had 4 (?) stops since he left Minnesota.

I doubt if Kill is going to be "in charge" of anything at TCU.

That is a really odd line. They have an OC on staff who has been there for 7 years so not really sure how exactly Kill will be "in charge" of the offense.

RUTM specialist and will find QB's that can't throw better than Steve Sax.

It's his highest profile stop. Pretty common.

Yep, former Minnesota head coach will stick with him until he does something bigger and that seems fairly unlikely to happen given his age, health, and the fact that he doesn't stay anywhere for more than a year these days.

Ol Jer maybe looking to start a place coup and take over when Patterson has whatever surgery he needs to help him walk normally.

I wish Jerry Kill the best, but I thought he had to stop coaching due to health concerns. If so, why does he keep taking coaching jobs?

Not really. “Special Assistant” is somewhere between “gofer” and “personal driver”. Since Jer can’t drive, either job is difficult.

Seriously, it’s an honorary title with little responsibility. It’s barely a step sideways.

Helps to read the thread being responded to before responding...it was in reference to using "former Minnesota coach", which has been his highest profile position.

Because Ol' Jer is a ball coach from what I've been told once....just once.
