Draft Express takes a look at the top five NBA prospects in the Big Ten; it should come as no surprise to Gopher fans that our team full of solid role players doesn’t have anyone on the list. This does remind us that Ohio State should be pretty formidable this season:

Last season the SEC had one of the worst overall seasons ever for one of the Big Six conferences. Reading ESPN’s preview, one gets the feeling that they should bounce back pretty strongly this season, led by Kentucky:

Rivals gives their prediction on the top mid-majors this upcoming season and Butler appears at #1 on the list:

The National Hoops Report provides their insight on the top ACC freshman and I’m starting to become intrigued by Georgia Tech after reading the words describing their new point guard, Mfon Udofia (who the Gophers sniffed around for awhile). Our ACC opponent in the Challenge looks to have a couple intriguing freshmen also:

I’m getting used to seeing the sons of college basketball stars from my youth emerge on the national scene themselves. That being said, my jaw dropped when I saw that Chris Washburn has two sons as major college prospects.

JuJuan Johnson improved considerably from an ordinary frosh season to an excellent soph year. Ralph Sampson III could do similar this year and become NBA prospect as junior.

Royce White and Rodney Williams have NBA potential in a couple of years.

Hewitt and GT are an enigma. PH has shown himself as being a top notch recruiter but they're stuck in this weird cycle. Every 3 years they bring in an impressive haul of recruits only to see them leave after a year or 2. Then they go in a 2-year funk where they can't seem to even qualify for the NIT. Personally, I think they need to change their recruiting philosophy, similar to what got them to the championship game in '04. Recruit 4-year players and supplement it with a stud recruit or 2. No team in college basketball has had the rollercoaster ride GT has had this decade.

Favors and Lawal will make up the best frontcourt in college basketball this year but this will both be their last year in Atlanta.

I read the ACC freshman report you posted. Seems about right to me. I don't know much about Scott Wood, the shooter headed to NC St but he must be a light-out shooter because I've read many reports on Andre Dawkins that say he was the best shooter of the elite players in his class. If not for Favors (who is the most impressive freshman I saw in his class), Dawkins would be my (somewhat biased) pick for ACC freshman of the year. Even though he's a grade younger than everyone else coming in, he will get at least 20 minutes per game and has the offensive skills to average double figures right away. He's that good of a shooter and is also athletic enough to finish around the rim.

As could Colt Iverson. I believe it's still too close to call for the starting center spot next year.

Ralph has potential but I think the chances are very slim that he will ever be considered to be a top three NBA prospect in the Big Ten. His ceiling is much lower than Johnson's IMO.

Their frosh year stats were pretty similar. JJJ has advantage that he can play F in NBA. RSIII is C.

True dat. Iverson has potential as low post player. There are others with his type of skills in NBA.
