Creating and sustaining energy at the Barn

They filled them all in the final 4 years. Student sections are filled at nearly all the elite programs. KU,NOVA,UVA,DUKE,KENTUCKY and even some former elites like IU and many others.
Now KU, Duke, Kentucky are all elite programs.

Not just the coach. Huh.

Do you think that has anything to do with the size/modernity/sterility of the building (as compared to the old fieldhouse)? That's a pertinent question as some folks here have been talking about knocking down Williams Arena and building something bigger and more modern. Or is this a fairly new trend since Gard took over?

They do have a strange setup for students, split over 3 levels.

There is very little to no chance that Williams Arena will be knocked down or significantly remodeled for something bigger and more modern. When it happens (and I hope it's sooner rather than later) it will likely be for something smaller and more modern (or retro looking).

Attendance here and nationally just does not justify arenas with 14,625 capacity, for the most part. Shrink it to say 11,500 - 12,000 and use the extra space for elevators/escalators, bathrooms and concession stands, none of which exist in Williams Arena's upper deck. A bar/lounge area could also be monetized.

What does it look like at Hinkle over at Butler University? Williams and Hinkle seem to be a good comparison. I think improving the amenities at Williams would be great for fans and improving the locker rooms would be great for players. But, having a new stadium is not a sure fire solution as we have seen with the football program.
