Gary Trent Jr., a 6-foot-5 junior from Apple Valley (MN) High, is a repeat member of the College Basketball News’ All-Metro team and is my choice for College Basketball News’ Metro Player of the Year as he has helped lead the Eagles to a 28-1 record. He is averaging 26.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Trent Jr. has scored in double figures in 25 of 27 contests with a season-high 46 points versus Chanhassen and Prior Lake. He is shooting 53.9% from the field, 41.0% from three-point range and 84.1% from the charity stripe. Trent Jr, who is the top Minnesotan in the Class of 2017, has scholarship offers from Minnesota, Ohio State, UCLA, Arizona, Duke and Texas Tech among others. Third seed Apple Valley faces Blaine Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Steffon Mitchell, a 6-foot-7 senior forward from Shakopee, is also a repeat member after he averaged 24.8 points and 8.8 rebounds for the 22-6 Sabers. He has scored in double figures in all 28 games, including a season-high 37 points versus Lakeville South. Mitchell has scored 20 or more points in 23 of his 28 games. Mitchell has scholarship offers from Central Michigan, North Dakota State, Wichita State, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Furman. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Top seed Shakopee was upset by fourth seed Eden Prairie in the second round of the Section 2AAAA playoffs.

Brad Davison, a 6-foot-3 junior guard from Maple Grove, averaged 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Crimson, leading them to 25-4 mark. He scored in double figures in 26 of 29 games and averaged 27.8 points per game in his final 13 contest after Tywhon Pickford, who was averaging a then-high 18.3 points per game suffered a season-ending knee injury. Davison had 11 games of 20 or more points and another six of 30 or more. Fourth seed Maple Grove faces Lakeville North Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Amir Coffey, a 6-foot-8 senior wing from Hopkins who is considered the state's top prospect in the Class of 2016, signed with Minnesota in the fall. Coffey is averaging 20.9 points per game this season, leading the Royals to a 28-1 mark. He has scored in double figures in 21 of his first 24 games with a season-best 35 points versus rival Minnetonka. Coffey bounced back after he suffered a season-ending knee injury against Burnsville three games into his junior season. Second seed Hopkins faces North St. Paul Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Tre Jones, a 6-foot-2 sophomore point guard from Apple Valley (MN) High, is the younger brother of Minnesota Timberwolves player Tyus. However, this year, he emerged as a player in his own right. Jones is averaging 16.0 points, 7.1 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game this season, leading the Eagles to a 28-1 mark. He scored in double figures in 25 of 29 games and shot 59.2% from the field, 80.35 from the line and 37.2% from the charity stripe. Jones had an incredible 27 games in which he shot 50% or better from the field. Third seed Apple Valley faces Blaine Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Nathan Reuvers, a 6-foot-10 junior from Lakeville (MN) North, has emerged as one of the state’s top prospects in the Class of 2017. Reuvers only averaged 6.5 points per game as a sophomore, but has increased his scoring to 20.0 points this season. He has helped pace the Panthers to a 24-5 mark as he has scored more in double figures in all but one game and has scored 20 or more points in 20 contests. Fifth seed Lakeville North faces Maple Grove Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Theo John didn't even make third team for the Strib, little surprised by that
