If you want to read some really intresting stuff regarding the hiring of Clem Haskins as the coach in 1986 I'd suggest getting a free 7 day trial of the newspapers.com publishers extra. There was lots of drama as Paul Giel who was AD at the time was shut out of the hiring process and the president and a VP basically hired Clem. Also worth noting is Haskins salary. when Clem was hired his University base salary was $80k. It didn't say what the outside sources of income added up to. Today most of the coaches salary comes from outside sources and is not the base salary.

I thought Clem the Gem was going to be a great coach for us for a long time. High in morals, good coach and on and on. Little blip in there unfortunately that I thought would never happen. Just can't get pass it despite happening years ago. Did he ever apologize for what he did?
